“Okie-dokes.” Kuroba shakes himself, and then turns to wave at the waiting group of suspects and witnesses with a reassuring smile. They stare blankly at him.
“They’re traumatized, Kaito-san.”
“I know. That’s why I’m being nice.”
Shinichi grabs Kuroba’s jacket and starts yanking him toward the group, ignoring his annoyed muttering. In Kuroba’s defense, he’s very good at looking reassuring. It’s just a lot less effective when he’s standing next to the corpse.

Summary
[He] lifts his gaze back to the panting thief before him. KID nods vacantly. “You’ll . . . return it.”
Saguru hums a yes. KID smiles, gallant as ever, but presses a hand to his side. Saguru’s eyes flick to the railing and catch more smears of red. KID’s voice pulls them back to him. “I should . . . be going. I just wanted to return that. And,” his mouth twitches, “catch my breath. I . . . won’t keep you.”
He reaches up to tip his cap and starts to rise to stand on the railing, but staggers, nearly tips forward. Saguru jumps to him and catches his shoulders, eyeing the crimson stain on his side that the movement revealed. “I think that perhaps—”
KID interrupts him, attempting to right himself. “Truly, I apologize. I am . . . not myself.”
“You can say that again,” Saguru snaps at him. “Get off of there. You’ll fall.”Kaitou KID gets shot during a heist, and Saguru has to keep him alive. Then he has to pick up the pieces afterward. He does his best.

“Wait.” He can’t pick out a change in Hakuba’s tone, but there’s something under it that makes him pause. “Don’t go just yet.”
“Why not?” KID asks, giving him a carefully blank glance. “What does it matter to you?”
Hakuba looks at him—looks at him, straight through his face and his skin he’s wearing and through to his core. “It matters,” he says after a moment. “It just does. Stay, for just a little bit—just for some tea.”
KID hesitates. He’ll admit, he isn’t looking forward to going home and sleeping alone in his house with the ghost of his failure joining the ghost of his family. And the weekend . . . the whole weekend alone . . .
“Just for tea,” he murmurs, slipping off the railing.——
A heist turns sour, and Hakuba insists that Kaito needs company. Kaito’s not so sure that it’s necessary, but it can’t hurt to indulge his favorite detective.
