    Rand knew, distantly, that his body was high on adrenaline and that his heart was racing in his chest, but the sensations bounced off the void, failing to reach him.

    The man tilted his head to the side. Despite its innocent nature, the gesture seemed predatory; calculating and nearly playful. He looked like how Rand would have imagined a myrddraal; an impossibly tall figure, looming and shrouded in shadows, faceless and deathly silent.

    With his features nearly completely hidden, there was endless potential: He could have any face, any expression. At last, he spoke, “I didn’t mean to startle you." His voice, Rand noted, was surprisingly mellifluous.

     

    In a forest high on the slopes of Dragonmount, Rand finds a ring with a vengeful ghost attached to it.
