Summary
House and Wilson have a peculiar friendship - though if you asked Wilson, sleeping together once while one man was reeling from a traumatic surgery slash breakup and the other was in a failing marriage isn't all that unusual between friends. They manage to make it work, mostly by never bringing it up again.
While out, a patient's grieving brother approaches Wilson and injects him with an unknown compound. Wilson is rushed to the hospital. Though initially fine, he begins to exhibit strange and deadly symptoms. House is swept into a case that he cannot emotionally distance himself from, with a patient that he has exceptionally complex feelings for. Wilson clings to life as House hits brick wall after brick wall, desperate to save the one person he can't lose.

Dave hums to himself, clicking his tongue in thought before he takes a hold of the mirror in the bathroom with both hands, the entire medicine cabinet disengaging from the wall.
Hal yelps, surprised, “The hell-!?”
He gets an over the shoulder grin that’s bizarrely a little feral, “Thought you were the genius here, Hal.” Pushing at a compartment within the wall that had been behind the medicine cabinet, the soft click revealing a safe. Within the safe is two handguns, a case for a disassembled assault rifle, a knife belt, and ammunition, “Surely you should be catching on.”

The bed is empty.
For a moment, Chris thinks he has the wrong room. He almost goes to check the room number again before his eye catches the blanket crumpled at the foot of the bed, haphazardly strewn over the side and spilling onto the floor. Various leads and sensors from the monitors connect to nothing but the pillow they're resting on, their screens black— no beeps or hums or alarms. An IV line hangs from the bag on the pole and leads his gaze down to the floor where the needle rests in a puddle of fresh blood.
"God damn it, Leon—"

In the distance, he could barely make out where the smoke was coming from: his mangled motorcycle a hundred feet away from him.
“Typical. I leave you alone for two weeks and this is what happens.”
House looked to his right and there he was standing: Wilson. He looked healthier than the last time House saw him. More like himself.
House closed his eyes and let out a jaded sigh. “Can I not have one near-death experience without an apparition criticizing me?”
Wilson smirked. “I can leave if you want me to.”
“No, don’t-” House blurted out before reeling in his desperation. “Don’t. I’ve missed you.”
Wilson’s smirk softened. “I’ve missed you too.”
“No, you haven’t. You’re dead.”
“Yeah, and you’re about to be.”
House wasn’t happy to see Wilson. Happiness wasn’t his foremost emotion, at least. There were a lot of feelings moving around inside him. The last few months of Wilson’s life had been a bit unusual for them both.
