So, as he feels that prickle of danger become a very real feeling of pain, burning into his throat and flaring to his chest and stomach, he thinks Ah. The server was offering to Jean.
There is a ball held in Mondstatd every so often and Kaeya can't say he is overly fond of them. The poison, in particular doesn't help.

In the midst of searching for the answer, they stumble a deal with God of Death.
They need to bring back the memories to triggered the lifeless body. That is to live.
