When Inosuke asked what a soulmate was, Tanjiro froze. He didn't know how to answer that, when his soulmates were his family's murderer, the Hashiras who called for the decapitation of him and his sister, or the other slayer he broke the arm of. As far as Tanjiro was concerned, your soulmate was the person who wished for your demise, but that wasn't the answer he wanted to give Inosuke. He gave him the answer his parents always told him and his siblings.
