Roe says it’s just temporary, but it’s hard to focus on that as he watches Nix, listless on the bed, eyes wide and unseeing. Dick has been standing at the foot of the bed until he can trust his voice to be calm. He’s glad he told Harry to wait. He needs to do this alone; he’s worried that his face will betray the depth of his feelings, and that’s a complication they could all do without.
