Summary
It's been six months since Courtland Gentry has escaped the CIA, and no one's looking for him. Claire is alive, stubborn, and healthy, and Court is right back where he belongs, with his brothers. Things are looking up for all three brothers… but nothing's ever so easy. After a night celebrating their brother's return, Ryland and Colt have fallen violently ill—and with Ryland on break from the Petrova Task Force, there's only so much they can do to be treated without drawing undo attention.

Summary

Summary

Summary
The water's been dying. A strange creature known as a hydrophage—rumored to be a distant cousin of the feared Astrophage that's devouring the light of distant stars, has been consuming water in droves, rendering most of what's been devoured uninhabitable for most marine life—and it's been starting to infect the Earth's freshwater supplies, turning it toxic.
The Petrova Taskforce, formed by Eva Stratt, now has their attention divided—a dying water supply, and monitoring the creature that's eating stars? It's unthinkable. Ryland Grace is recruited to handle both, but with the water supplies a more immediate danger, Project Hail Mary's task is to go into the ocean and figure out just what's happening.
Only problem? Ryland Grace wakes up at the bottom of the ocean, changed. He doesn't remember a thing, only that he's now a creature of myth, a merman, and a strange little sea urchin's responsible. Now what's a guy to do about the dying water, when he was supposed to be looking at the stars?
Meanwhile on the other side of the ocean, the strange little urchin's mate and her merman partner are on the search for where he's gone…

Ryland blinked. The world swam.
A face. Above him. Backlit by the gray afternoon sky streaming through the shattered window, features shadowed and impossible to resolve into anything coherent. Strong jaw. Blue eyes sharp, looking at him with an intensity that should have been frightening but wasn't, somehow. Wasn't frightening at all.
Court?
The name surfaced from somewhere deep and buried under years of carefully constructed normalcy. The face above him blurred and shifted in his failing vision, and for one breathless, impossible moment it was him. Older, harder, scarred in ways Ryland's memory didn't account for, but him.
Oh, Ryland thought, with the strange, floating calm of someone who understood they were dying. You came to get me.

Stratt follows my gaze. "Dr. Grace, this is Ken. Ken, this is Dr. Grace. He will be working with you for the foreseeable future. Please remove your sunglasses."
"Ken" raises his head but doesn't rise from his slouch. He lazily removes the chunky shades and tosses them away with a grin. He has a smaller pair underneath.
"Remove *all* your sunglasses," Stratt barks.
Ken scowls and takes off the remaining pair. I stagger backward in shock. "He's…it's…me!" Ken looks just like me—that is, if I'd spent all summer tanning at the beach and had my minimal fashion sense surgically removed.

Dr Captain Ryland Grace returns to an Earth that had long designated him “history”; 58 years old, and with a body that ached in vicious revenge, Grace wanted to take Rocky and Adrian through the wonders of Planet Earth before his time came.
Rocky and Adrian would very much like it if Grace stopped referencing his mortality, and are finding Earth about as peculiar and spectacular as the man the planet gave them.
Earth is pleasantly surprised to see their intergalactic neighbours at their doorstep, and would very much like to confiscate Grace from Rocky for scientific study, because how the fuck was he still alive.
