Jax had been pacing for- it might have been hours, he had no way of knowing- while he mulled over everything that had happened. It had all gone by so fast, everything was a blur, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to remember any details.
All of the others were huddled together, probably discussing a plan or arranging a group therapy session or something. Kinger was slumped against a wall, the bucket on his head looking more like it was there to hide his shame than to keep him sane.

I tried to breathe, it was strange, I felt my lungs expand but it didn’t feel like…breathing. Like my body was going through the actions without fulfilling the process- there was no sensation of any air being drawn in or breathed out. Maybe it was something remaining from my injuries, maybe I was just numb. Shock was looking increasingly likely.
I tried to open my eyes next, my eyelids were heavy, I tried once, twice, three times just to get them to flutter, after further effort, I finally managed to open them enough to take in my surroundings. I did not see any screens, nor any of the sterile white that I’d grown used to being surrounded with. It just looked like a dark void, broken by the occasional pinprick of light.

Summary
Disaster strikes the Hail Mary on its way back to Earth. The taumoeba escape their breeding tanks, and make it to the fuel lines. Stranded in space just outside the Tau Ceti system, Dr Ryland Grace can't do anything. He can't go save Rocky, he can't go save Earth. Exhausted, out of options, and distraught, he fills the ship with nitrogen, and takes his final breath.
Next thing he knows, his eyes flutter open in his San Francisco apartment. It's a year before ArcLight touches down on Earth, but he remembers the Petrova Task Force.

“What are you talking about?” Grace's fingers played quick chords as he spoke. He didn’t even look as he did it, but it did not make them any less purposeful.
“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.
