Simon paused his kisses. “How did you see this going?”

“Do you want to talk instead?”
Grace couldn’t even remember what he wanted to say. Actually, there were no words that described what he wanted. “No. No, keep going.”

Summary
Grace's favorite book is Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, and he finds himself returning to a certain quote. “Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.” In context, it makes a lot more sense, but it boils down to this: the universe is so massive that the chance of even bumping into a piece of debris out there, let alone another spaceship, is almost entirely impossible.
“So,” he thinks aloud, “how in the heck is there another craft out there?”
aka Grace and Rocky pick up Simon on their way back from planet Adrian, and they try to live, because what else can they do?

I’m surprised by my reflection in mirrors, but I’ve almost stopped flinching from the self I don’t recognize. I’m not hungry but I need to eat, otherwise my mind slows and my body begins to fall apart. What I eat I can barely taste. I can’t decide what I miss the most, the feeling of being rested or the satisfaction that comes from eating a good meal.” Occtis tries to stop speaking, but one more phrase makes it out on the last of his breath. “There’s a hollow place where my heart was, and it’s always cold.”
