It was a game they played, sometimes: this back and forth, this playful teasing. It had begun when they were children, running together through the Red Keep, born of a simple question: what if we were sister and brother, not brother and brother? Would we get married? What would it be like?
They were grown, now, and with each inch gained in height another spark of that childish playfulness had been lost, but this, this they still had. This…playing. It was only playing. Maekar told himself that. Only playing.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, first of her name, was desperately garnering her support to topple the Usurper, Aegon II, from his stolen throne after the death of her father.
The Greens only had three dragons, one without any battle experience at all. They should not have been a problem.
But, Vhagar was the mount of Visenya herself, the largest dragon in the world.
And so, Rhaenyra faced a problem. Several Lords would not be swayed to her side if they had to fear the retribution of Vhagar and her rider’s retribution. She couldn’t just kill Aemond, Vhagar would torch Dragonstone to the ground, and it would make her a Kinslayer besides.
She needed him on her side.
And everyone knew Aemond Targaryen’s weakness was his family.
