It was electrifying, like stepping closer and closer to the edge of a cliff, becoming more and more brave with every try; revisiting and becoming giddy in the progression. Soon Dream wouldn’t fear to fling himself off the ledge, knowing Hob would catch him at the bottom.
Currently, the sounds of his windows rattling from the flurries outside fill his dark flat, along with the flutter of the open flames on his range, and the quiet drip, drip, drip of the kitchen tap (to prevent frozen pipes, Dream had learned that lesson the hard way last winter).

While there, Death's brother, Dream, is attacked, and Hob steps in front of Dream to take the hit and save him, and the healing that Dream then performs nearly kills him.
The only way to save him is to, well. Fuck enough magic into him so it stops trying to hurt him. One thing leads to another, and Hob not only finds himself catching feelings, but realizing that he might be able to help this dying Universe, more than he ever could have thought possible.
Alternate Summary: A fic wherein Dream has a magical cock, and Hob has the power of Trust that apparently fucked faith back into Dream to save the day like the magical girl he is.

Finally, Dream sighs, his shoulders going with it as he turns to bodily face Hob, planting one foot on the bench and almost curling around his bent knee pressed against his chest.

Hob and Dream had both been so young when they’d married. The fights had been small but constant. Little things that bubbled up into nonsense. And they hadn’t been ready for kids. But it felt like the natural next step. Their surrogate having twins was a shock for both of them.
But they had loved Orpheus and Robyn all the same. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep them together.

Even as they initially butt heads, Dream captivates Hob, and he wonders what it is about the quiet musician that charms him in even their smallest interactions. It’s going to be a long ride, but Hob has never felt more eager for it.

The last person Dream expects to see in Burgess' basement is Hob Gadling, who has apparently been asked to consult on the restoration of the historic manor. He is pleased when his old acquaintance helps free him without a second thought, despite their past squabble, but he is horrified to realise that breaking the binding circle does nothing to return his powers to him, and that he cannot return to the Dreaming after having been released from his cage.
Weak, confused, and distressingly human, he consents to being taken back to Hob's home to be cared for until he can regain his strength. When he falls asleep that night (which he should never have had need for), he finally finds his way back to his palace, only to find someone else sitting on his throne, wearing his ruby, and claiming his name as her own — Dream of the Endless.
