So, it didn’t start out like this.
Alfred would scoff at the statement, about how Bruce was trying to justify the whole situation to himself. It had started out as a simple design, black everything with black outlines and black hood. It got a little more intense as the world went on, got wind of his ghost on the streets, and became scared of The Bat . So Bruce got a little more creative with it, Alfred and him had a good laugh over the name, the scare, and Alfred had a vicious streak of humor that he had passed onto his ward-
So now the suit had a visible bat-theme, an insignia to drape in the shadows and to paint across the streets of Gotham.
It only took a year into the whole charade of heroism for Bruce to overhear a conversation between some goons- some low level thug hired by the Riddler this week- about nothing at all pertaining to what the hell the Riddler was doing in the sewers but instead:
“ The Batman can fly, you know, I’ve seen his wings.”

When a confrontation with a powerful magic user goes awry, Damian is cursed, robbing him of his voice. Or, communicate without a fresh bruise appearing, that is.
What begins as an inconvenience quickly spirals into something far worse, as he finds himself struggling with the mounting realization: no one has noticed. As his silence deepens, so do the rifts with his family. He’s not helped by the many more sinister theories the people around him assume because of his new temperament.
One thing is certain: he really, really hates magic.

“Look, Steven,” he says, with both his hands to accentuate what he says. “I think we blipped because neither of us remember the blip, but there was only one person who could have reported me that didn’t blip, not counting Khonshu, and my name isn’t in any of the databases, so he didn’t, so either he cares a hell of a lot less than he says and shows, or… ‘dunno, we blanked it, or something.”
And now Steven’s getting nervous, because he didn’t consider checking any of the memorial lists before posing the question to Marc, but he trusts that, genuinely, neither of them know.
“Should we call your friend and ask?” Steven suggests. “Or see if Layla remembers something we don’t?”
“Haven’t filled him in on… anything about you,” Marc admits. “Haven’t had the opportunity.”
“Well, then just ask why we’re not on the memorial list,” Steven suggests. “If he thinks we’re crazy, then we know we didn’t blip, and we can go from there. If there’s an explanation, then great, that’s one thing figured out.”
[In which Jake lives in NYC for the duration of the blip, and Marc and Steven eventually get debriefed.]
