Summary
Shane and Ilya are soulmates (obviously) in a world where you can always feel how far away the other person is.
For his entire life, Shane has been conscious of how big the world is. There has always been an itch, a feeling that something is too far away. It has never been painful but it has been constantly there, the feeling that things will never quite be settled. He is not the only person in the world with this feeling, for a start, he knows implicitly that there will be someone else with the same feeling somewhere distant because that is how soulmates work. They come in pairs.

Ilya's life changes majorly when he unexpectedly presents as omega during a game. The non-con is minimally described, I just wanted to be safe.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov no longer existed.
After he presented as an Omega seven years ago, his fate was sealed and he spent the intervening years learning his place.
He never expected to end up in an Omega shelter in Ottawa, being placed with a sponsor to help him gain his Canadian asylum citizenship due to his designation.
He *certainly* never expected to be placed with the Alpha who he'd played against all those years ago, the Alpha with the soft doe eyes and the beautiful freckles.
And what he finds there?
Well, those things were the most unexpected discoveries of all.

Yuri Savitsky is trying to find a life in North America, knowing Russia was permanently in the past for him. He is starting his first year with the Ottawa Centaurs and he most definitely does NOT hate Ilya Rozanov. He just wants to play hockey and, maybe, one day, be happy again. It would be easier if people stopped worrying about his life outside of hockey.
