Summary
He hadn’t thought it was love, is the thing.
An obsession, maybe, or an affliction of lust, the way he could never seem to grasp the word no around Rozanov, how his touch always turned him wanting and wanton. And maybe he’d thought he would get over it, now that it was verging on almost half a year since Sochi, five months and change since Rozanov had last deigned to text him back.
But the petal in his palm and the way it was definitely a lily and the cold hard truth that he would be diagnosed with stage I Hanahaki the second he stepped inside urgent care with it, meant it couldn’t be anything else.

Gilbert Comeau was there skating across the ice, taking in the boos like they were singing his praises. And he was wearing the C. Gilbert Comeau was the captain of the Montreal Metros. Shane’s Montreal Metros. Shane’s mouth went dry. He took off his glasses, as though the slight tint would change anything, would rewrite what was stitched across Gilbert Comeau’s chest.
“What the fuck?” Rozanov balked.
“Maybe this is isn’t our timeline.” Shane uttered.
“What?” Rozanov laughed.
“Like maybe it’s an alternate reality.” Shane explained. Already, his chest felt tight. He could hear his heart in his ears, pounding with the thrum of the crowd. “Like from movies, or whatever.”
Ilya only stared at him, that look spreading across his face that Shane could never quite place. Now, though, he didn’t have time for any of this. Gilbert fucking Comeau was wearing his C, and Shane Hollander was nowhere to be found.

“This guy is pretending to be Shane Hollander on Grindr. It’s pretty funny. He’s cropped the face out, but he’s using pictures from the billboard next to my apartment.”
Or: Ilya Rozanov is sure he's being catfished- why would the real Shane Hollander be on Grindr, talking to random university of Ottawa students? But the more he talks to Wayne, the more he starts to like him, and the more he wishes Wayne would just come clean so they can finally be together.
