It was oppressively hot, and dust immediately clung to Beca Mitchell’s tongue as she opened the stagecoach door and hopped down onto the rough-packed ground.
“Welcome to Barden City,” she murmured to herself as the driver launched her bags off the top of the stagecoach to land with a thud next to her. Then he tipped his hat and sped his contraption away, horses’ whinnies floating back on the wind. “Well...” she added, as she fixed her hat and straightened her floral, bustled dress. “What do we do now?”
