Ilya didn’t think he’d ever seen anyone look so effortlessly gorgeous in a pair of ratty sweatpants and a bleach-stained t-shirt. He also didn’t think he’d ever find a personal family photo of Shane Hollander, the up-and-coming hockey sensation from Canada who had gone missing in November of 2008, in a thrift shop in Boston."
Ilya and Shane never met at world juniors because Shane vanished without a trace. Against all logic, he appears almost two years later in Ilya's dreams. Those dreams begin to blur the line between fiction and reality, becoming muddy and impossible to navigate. As Ilya falls in love with a dead man, he finds that he cares less and less about those lines. When the opportunity to solve the mystery and bring closure to Shane's parents presents itself, Ilya must face whatever reality may truly be, even if that means losing the love of his life for good.

⚠️Spoilers!⚠️
Hollanov connect to each in Ilya's dream. Eventually Ilya hires a P.I. with information given to him by Shane. This P.I. finds the person who kidnapped Shane and gives the info to Ilya; the information revealed shows that the stalker became obsessed with Shane after tracking players that the NHL was interested in scouting. Instead of going to the police, Ilya goes to the Hollanders and give them the information. This leads to Shane being found alive. Before Shane woke up, Ilya thought Shane would not remember the dreams, but Shane did. Last chapter notes clearly state that Shane plays for Boston.

Spoilers for Part 2 [Highwire]
Farah and Shane are actually friends that bonded over starting their careers at the same time. Shane had Ilya come over the same time that Farah was going to be there to discuss things. Shane was in the process of meal prepping and had made tonkatsu broth for ramen. So the group eat that for a meal.
Farah tells Ilya a theory she had about the draft that she had told Shane numerous time; Boston would have always chose Ilya, and Montreal would have always chose Shane. Therefore the number 1 draft pick was dependent on who chose first, meaning if Montreal had first pick, then Shane would have been first.
The conversation moves on and Farah tells Shane he needs a publicist/manager and the person that Farah wants to hire is Shane's female cousin, Cathy. Shane is against this idea and has said no the previous times Farah brought it up. Ilya convinces Shane it is a good idea in about 5 minutes. Shane invites his cousin over and she agree as soon as she learns that Shane made their Obaasan's recipe.
The cousin, full name Catherine Yukimura, is biracial as well. Her dad is Japanese, thus related to Yuna, and her mother is Haitian.
