He dragged a hand over his face – too big, too straight – and felt his heart drop even further as he felt the faint burn of stubble. He stumbled out of bed, legs that were far too long tangling in sheets that weren’t his. Long black hair half blocked his vision and brought with it a horrifying realisation.

He was taught to never get attached, that love was weakness. He was ok with being the villain. His grandfather taught him well.

    He lived by these rules for so long, that when a hero came and wrecked every single one of them, what could he do but fall?

    The least he could do is die protecting the one he loved. He was destined to have a tragic end.

    And yet, Hiccup saw fit to break that rule too.
