Will choked out a sob, a terrible feeling churning inside him as the demos tore the door open. Will scrambled forward, with Mike in his arms, and rushed towards the opposite wall to put as much distance between the monsters and Mike.
He pressed his back against the wall and cradled Mike to his chest, standing weakly as he stared at the monsters filtering inside the small room. There were more of them now, four demodogs and three demogorgans, watching them like they were waiting for a command. From vecna.
Will gritted his teeth and stared back at the petal-faced monsters, at their rows and rows of sharp teeth arranged perfectly.
He pulled Mike closer to his chest and pressed a kiss to his head, for one last time.
“I’m sorry, baby,” he whispered wetly, feeling the tears stream down his cheeks freely now. They dripped down his face and fell into Mike’s curls, dampening them. “I couldn't save you,”
He watched in slow motion as the demodogs jumped at them.
They were going to die.
Vecna was going to take Mike from him again.
And something snapped inside Will.
Or the lumax hospital run but I made it byler.

Summary
“Holy shit,” Dustin panted, collapsing against the seat. His curls bounced as he laughed, wild and hysterical, trying to release the pressure in his chest. “We just out did the fucking military!”
Jonathan slapped the side of the car door as if to confirm they were alive. “That was insane,” Nancy breathed, her face pale but flushed with triumph, strands of hair plastered to her forehead with sweat. She let out a laugh that was half-shock, half-relief.
Steve leaned across Jonathan, his grin wide despite the fear still swimming in his eyes. “We’re legends. Absolute legends.”
Everyone talked at once, voices clashing, relief thick in the air.
But Mike didn’t join in. He leaned back against the seat, the roar of the celebration muffling in his ears. His hand trembled as it slid across his stomach, sticky warmth seeping through his shirt. His chest rose, fell — shallow, uneven. At first, he thought it was just the leftover terror shaking his body.
But then his palm came away red.
