    Lan Zhan is glaring at him. That's probably fair.

    The last time they'd seen each other, Wei Ying had been digging through Lan Zhan's garbage. They'd made eye contact over the shredded bags, the week's trash scattered around him like stinky, oversized Lego.

    Lan Zhan's eyes had been wide with horror, and Wei Ying's had been equally wide with feigned innocence. He'd reached out slowly, maintaining the eye contact, and then flipped over the food waste bin full of onion peel and carrot skin as a distraction and slunk off into the night. Probably not his finest moment.

    At thirty-one, omega Lan Wangji is an accomplished cultivator who holds two Ph.D.'s, works at JinLinTai University Library as Director of Collection Management, teaches courses in Cultivation Musicology, and conducts research to compose an enchanted symphony. He assumes the time for finding a mate and having pups has passed him by, and works to be content with that.
    After spending half of his adolescence and all of his twenties in independent, self-taught research and raising his younger sister, alpha Wei Wuxian finally got the Jianghu to recognize his work re-discovering talismanry and array language. Unfortunately, the Sects aren't exactly thrilled with his surprise appearance, and are eager to get him either under their thumb or out of the way. When the strange and beautiful Lan Wangji offers to help him, he's not in a position to say no.

    Finding companionship and understanding in one another, the two begin a courtship that surprises everyone, but most of all themselves.

    The first thing Wei Ying became aware of was cold steel at his throat.
    Not one blade—several.
    He did not move.

    Sleep still clung to him, heavy and disorienting, but instinct burned through it fast enough. His eyes cracked open to darkness cut by lantern light, and beyond it, the rigid silhouettes of Gusu Lan disciples. White robes. Swords steady. Not trembling.
    Not a mistake, then.

    Wei Ying let out a slow breath, careful not to shift against the edge pressing lightly into his skin. “Well,” he said, voice rough with sleep, “this is a new way to wake up.”

    No one laughed.
    That, more than the swords, told him something was very wrong.

    “You will come with us,” one disciple said. Young. Formal. Afraid—but hiding it well. “You are to be detained and questioned.”

    “Questioned?” Wei Ying echoed. His mind raced, sifting through the previous day. Punishments—yes. Lan Wangji standing over him like a silent judge. Copying rules until his wrist ached. Kneeling until his legs went numb. Nothing new, nothing unusual, nothing that should end with… this.

    He frowned. “Did I break a new rule I haven’t heard of yet?”

    Things worked out just as Dumbledore planned... then magic decided to make a few adjustments. For Harry, it was more than a bit of a shock to go from a battered 150 yr old body to his newly adult status 14 yr old body. He hadn't even had a chance to finish his morning tea! But then with his luck it wasn't all that much of a surprise. Finding out that he had a chance to do it right this time was something he planned to take full advantage of. Hopefully, he wouldn't have to kill ol' Tommy boy again but he wasn't counting on that.
