    Tim prided himself on his ability to untangle problems.

    Red Hood declared war on Batman again because of some bullshit that Bruce is doing in Crime Alley? Okay, no problem—Tim’s on Jason’s side for this one, and it’s easy enough to throw some financial and logistical support Hood’s way.

    Robin’s benched, and Damian’s embarking on teenage rebellion? Sure, that one’s a little harder for Tim to fix, but still, he’s got at least five contingency plans for this exact scenario.

    Jason’s recent crusade brought up memories that Tim hadn’t thought about for years, and now Tim’s stuck ruminating on the exact parameters of his undercover training and the precise definition of what counts as trauma?

    …Yeah, so maybe Tim doesn’t have a solution to everything, and maybe this particular problem just won’t leave Tim alone. But the people he loves seem to refuse to abandon him, no matter how hard he tries. So maybe, just maybe, he’s going to have to figure out how to live through it, anyway.

    (or: the ramifications of being raised as a soldier instead of a child, and what it means to break a cycle.)

    OR, me realising that Bruce — and just in general the bats — never even found out what actually happened leading up to that warehouse between Sheila and Jason, so I decided to take matters into my own hands; adding in a bit of sprinkled Jason being emotionally hurt with an additive of clueless bats to the mix as well as a lot of accidental assumptions that Jason just let them make.

Jason thinks back to the first time he heard one of the many screaming matches he had to get used to with Dick around, and remembers shaky hands and restless feet, waiting to bolt in case something gets thrown his way. He remembers locking himself up in in his room and wondering why the air suddenly seemed ten times thicker, and his throat too constricted to let it through. He lies through his teeth.

    Jason Todd’s plan to have Black Mask break the Joker out of prison falls through when the Joker isn’t interested in helping Black Mask deal with a nobody, upstart crime lord. So, Jason has to improvise. Maybe enticing the Joker will do the trick. Maybe showing the Joker who he’s really dealing with will bring the clown out to play… but how to do that?
