Summary
Killua is a jealous person. He knows, somewhere in his heart, that that isn’t a good thing to be, but he doesn’t know how to change it. Because he’s jealous, that’s what he feels. He doesn’t know how to change his feelings. He’s jealous every time Leorio and Kurapika go out for date night, every time Gon goes to meet his Aunt on Whale Island, every time they pick one of their movies to watch for movie night instead of his.
Killua is jealous almost all the time, and he hates it. He hates it so much. Whenever Gon does well at something, gets a trophy or a pat on the back from Leorio, he feels that spike of envy. He wants to be happy for his friends, but he never is. It’s an ugly way to be.

Whale Island was small, and there weren’t many children Gon’s age walking the streets. She had memories of the occasional passenger ship arriving and Gon spending hours playing with the kids who arrived on it, only to later wave goodbye at the edge of the pier. Of course he’d want to spend time with a new friend who didn’t seem to have any intention of leaving unless Gon was with him.
Killua.
Killua, who Gon had met on his adventure. Killua, who had chosen to come with him. Killua, who hadn’t mentioned his family once.

Mito’s nephew, upon return from his hunter exams, brought back a stray along with him.
Except, this wasn’t a cat.
This was a human boy. Pale as the first snow of winter with a head full of messy ashen hair and eyes so big that when Mito had first caught a glimpse of him, she felt as if she was stargazing.
Or perhaps, looking into a bottomless void, deeper than any ocean trenches.
Her dear Gon had brought back with him a poor sad child. One of calamity. He left large footprints on the earth he tread, but made no echoing sound or vibrations of footsteps behind.
It must have been a lonely existence.
Or
Mito helps Gon show Killua a glimpse of a normal existence.

Summary
Leo meets Kylian’s eyes. Feeling like a little kid in line for a scolding, he wants to squirm. It’s fucking weird. Leo doesn’t do the whole mentor thing with him, never has. They respect each other a fuck ton, but they don’t have that kind of relationship where looking out for each other beyond basic shit is expected.
“You shouldn’t strain yourself to be here,” Leo says then.
“It’s a knock,” Kylian argues. Athletes play through mild discomfort all the time. Something always hurts. There’s a big difference between being injured and being a little sore. “The team doctors cleared me.” As did his own private physios. “I know what I’m doing.”
OR: the training session interlude where Leo notices Kylian hiding some discomfort, helps him stretch, and a little talk ensues

Galtier damn near had a stroke when he’d shown up with Neymar and Presnel at his back to Sergio trying to stop an obviously younger Leo from having a panic attack. 2010 Messi had a puking problem — it wasn’t pleasant. Neymar’s shitty French had not done a good job of explaining the situation to their coach, who, as always, offered little in regard to solutions.
Fact of the matter? No one could explain this.
All they knew was — they played City, best team in the world Champion’s League prime favorites City, tomorrow, and whether the guy had to be dragged onto the pitch for it, they were not playing that game without him.

“We literally celebrated your 30th birthday last month.” Leo told this strange, wrinkled version of Xavi. Geri, among others, had gotten very drunk and Carles had made sure to remind them how much he’d regretted the decision to attend everyday in training for two weeks straight.
“That was thirteen years ago.”
Leo swallowed. All of a sudden, his throat was dry. “That would make me thirty-five.”
“Thirty-six.”
He caught a glimpse of himself in one of the dressing room mirrors. His hair was a tousled mess (he’d not bothered to style it) but other than that he looked normal.
“I’m not thirty-six.”
“You aren’t,” Xavi croaked unhelpfully.

“Hey…” Leo prompted, nudging up his shoulder a little. Pedri was really leaning on him now, the full brunt of his admittedly small for an athlete of his height weight on Leo’s chest. “You alright?”
He’d passed out, Leo realized. His limbs were flail and his eyes had fallen shut. Allowing instinct to beat out his panic, Leo moved fast, dragging Pedri down and laying him on one of the gym mats. He was still breathing, his chest rising and falling steadily, but his flushed cheeks looked a few shades too wrong from this new angle and when Leo touched his forehead with the back of his hand, it was hot enough to burn.
The kid was sick.

"Okay?" Leo asks quite uselessly, again in French. Ethan doesn't move, does not even seem to have registered the question. As Leo mashes the yellow emergency help button, he notes that the silence is broken only by the metallic ding of the SOS bell and his own breathing. Either Kylian's brother is very good at inhaling without noise, or the kid's not breathing at all. Fucking fantastic.
