Summary
This is the fourth story centered on the execution of a spy convicted of murder in a future Great Britian. The first Graham Gore abducted from 1847 is an Admiral in the British Navy, working in Military Intelligence along with his adult son, Captain Arthur Gore. Both of them are mentioned briefly in the novel "The Ministry of Time" by Kaliane Bradley.
Arthur is a rising prince in the Ministry and must take his turn with the command of the division that prosecutes and imprisons foreign spies who are caught and convicted of crimes. Those who murder are not put in British prisons. If they are not repatriated, they are executed. Everyone in the espionage underworld knows that the United Kingdom will do this, it's not a secret.
The prisoner, Marina, has been told by the prison Chaplain that she will die tomorrow. This story is how she uses her last hours of life. Marina's background remains mysterious, but this story tells us a little more about her as a person.
