The first time they hooked up, Rozanov had kissed him before Shane got on his knees. They kissed when Scott Hunter was in the room next-door. And they kissed slowly and sweetly, on his apartment stairway, after Rozanov had taken his world apart and put him back together again. She stepped into the room; eyes almost immediately drawn to the stranger sitting in the old green armchair. He was dressed in all black, exactly as Kristina had said, cane resting in his leather covered, right hand. He was watching Alina in turn, expression cold and unreadable.
Alina felt scared of him, without knowing why. Something about his stare and all black clothes perhaps. He had a scar cutting down his face from above his left eyebrow to the top of his lip and a metal contraption on his right leg. The dark of the room seemed to settle in the sharp edges of his cheekbones and hollows of his eyes, as if the light from the candelabras could not touch him. Alina had the wild thought that death had come calling and had come for her specifically.
