Summary
Before he could stop himself, Iruka lurched forward and closed the gap between himself and the other human—whoever it was. If they flinched or tried to shy away, he couldn’t tell.
He was too tired, too enveloped in his own dramatic feelings of needing a hug in the first place to pay much mind to anything else.

“I'm such an idiot,” Iruka muttered, voice muffled by the other nin’s shoulder. “I don’t even know you that well. People might get the wrong idea.”
“I wouldn’t say that.” Hatake laughed softly into Iruka’s ear. “We both go to the bar whenever Anko invites the crew.”
“And we both go Genma’s dinner parties,” Iruka echoed. “Even though he can’t cook nearly as well as he says he can.”
“You see?”
[i.e. POV of a very, very sleepy Iruka trying to rationalize hugging the next person that walks past him in the hallway. That person happens to be Kakashi Hatake.]

Summary
"Someone came and got you." Kakashi's voice was barely a rasp. Iruka couldn't look up.
"Yes," he whispered. "Someone got me. They picked me up and now I'm here."
The silence was deafening. Iruka didn't know what to do, what to feel, even how he was feeling. He couldn't move, couldn't look up, couldn't not look up

Summary
The last five years of Iruka's life have been hectic, to say the least. The disaster that was the chuunin exams, then Naruto's departure with Jiraiya, the village's eventual destruction and in short order, the Fourth Shinobi War. And in between this, the good along with the bad - the joy he continues to find at the Academy, the time he's able to spend with his friends, the pride he feels each time he sees his student's graduate and every time he hears tale about Naruto's continued growth. Not to mention, his and Kakashi's developing relationship slowly turning into something frighteningly serious. Soon enough the war is a year behind them, and he watches with pride as a newly married Hokage walks across the stage to accept the robes. Iruka returns home afterwards with not only the leader of the village, but also his husband. Despite everything he's seen and lived through, life is good, and there's nowhere else he'd rather be.
It's really too bad he can't remember any of it.
