Summary
Clancy of Dema was born to die. His purpose was determined by the knife placed into his infant hand, promised to the priests of Vialism that rule the Sacred Municipality, like all others who shelter within its walls. He does not fear purpose. Why would he? Life's kingdom is nothing but grey walls and a certainty that he will always be incomplete.
There are poems written on his bedposts. Melodies turning over in the bus engines. Choruses whispered in his footsteps. They, too, are incomplete, but they are anything but grey. The hum of wonder haunts Clancy.
And beyond the walls of Dema shines a yellow star.

Summary
Sleep brings an omega to the house one evening, frail and blood-spattered with wide blue eyes.
III tumbles down the porch steps, lets Sleep curl happily around his shoulders, and pumps out calming pheromones toward the shivering man.
The man jolts back as III comes closer, and III croons at him lowly, and tells him he’s safe here.
The man watches him fearfully.
“We weren’t expecting you,” III says. “Sorry, so sorry.”

Summary
In the year 288 A.H., a young scholar from Baghdad travels to the twilit city of Harran, a holdout of paganism where cultists give offerings of blood to the god of the night sky. He has come to study the art of astrology under the star-worshippers of the city, but finds himself entangled in an occult web which threatens his life, his faith, and his soul.
This is the first entry in my planned series, Dreams of Distant Ages, in which I imagine how the god Sleep manifested in different civilizations throughout history.

(title from Wasteland, Baby! by Hozier.)
He looks up at II, eyes unfocused. “Do you ever hear it?”“Hear what?”
“The humming. Behind everything. Like the world breathing.”
II hesitates. “No. You really need to sleep, V.”
Vessel laughs, a short, broken sound. “I am sleeping.”

“So you’re saying I’m going to have one of those dreams tonight?” II asks in disbelief. “No. I saw what it did to you and I was scared, but I came out here because you swore Sleep wouldn’t hurt us. Am I gonna burn like you did last night?"
II is happy that his best friend has found a religion to follow, but Vessel's newfound devotion to the mysterious deity Sleep causes some concern for II. In his attempt to help Vessel find a way to cope with Sleep's gifts, II finds himself way more involved than he ever wanted to be.

Summary
The Oath. An ancient pact that keeps Hell and Earth from a war of mutually assured destruction. An oath that binds a demon prince, a demon hunter, a demon, and a witch as one. An oath that, should one dare attempt to violate it, will bring upon the wrath of the demonic oathkeepers of Hell, the erinyes. An oath that must be renewed every one thousand years.
The time for the Oath to be renewed is coming near. However, a dark force that hungers for blood and violence seeks to tear the Oath apart for boundless violence and misery. And so, the demon lord of the tides, Sleep, enlists the aid of the (almost unwilling) erinyes princess to bring the last of the Oathbound together.
Even if they don’t even know it yet.

Hey, mate. We never heard back from you about the upcoming NA tour. Did you and your lawyer get a chance to look everything over?
III sighs, forcing himself to sit upright in spite of the ache in his back and the dizziness that threatens to turn into nausea the longer that he goes without water. Dehydration was always a pain in the ass, but after three straight nights of partying, his body is practically begging for relief. He eyes the text once again, re-reading it over and over until the full weight of the words sink in. Every text he ever receives from Vessel feels like a tether around his chest, and he can’t decide whether to pull free or suffocate quietly in compliance with his wishes.
It reels him in closer to a self-image that he doesn’t want to recognize.
The point is, III doesn’t want to go.

Summary
His mind wandered more than his own bare feet. He wracked his brain for any kind of memory, any detail to grasp upon, but his labor bore no fruit. There were remnants of something, but nothing stuck out enough to know what it was anymore. At the best of his luck, he could somewhat remember the presence of others, people that once made him feel warm. He might have been loved, once. It had to be true. As for who they were, or even what they looked like, nothing came up. All he had was the knowledge that he had something, and now there was nothing. He was alone.
He groaned with frustration, quelling the feeling of grief over something he could barely conceptualize having. How could he start figuring out where he was if he couldn’t even remember where he’d been?
He paused to take a breath and look up, seeing that the sky was finally clear.
That’s when he saw the moon.
It was mostly intact. Mostly. The bottom of it was cracked open, the inside barely exposed by the angle at which it rested. The glow of the distant sun illuminated it, revealing the deep, blood-red color within.
Evidently, something had been there. Whatever it was, it got out.

Summary
Eyes. Huge, ocean blue, gorgeous eyes.
And they're staring right at him. Into him. Through him.
Vessel feels seen. He feels witnessed. His thoughts surely laid bare to this stranger. The man knows his secrets. He knows what he's done, he knows, he knows—
Vessel's stomach drops right through his body and into the center of the earth. He desperately wishes to follow it. To disappear. But doing that would mean not seeing those eyes ever again. It would be tantamount to torture, condemning himself to starvation after only just glimpsing something so delicious.OR:
A story in which the vessels are all artists. There’s idiots in love. There’s a coffee shop. There’s a memory that none of them can quite hold onto. There may or may not be an old god trapped in a painting.
