So amazing one might even say… that this feeling of no creepy sparkling marble statues feels so good that it’s almost… It’s almost like her own personal brand of heroin.

He deadpans, “You would prefer to make a parachute for an egg?”
She nods without missing a beat.She’d pay good money to see Edward Cullen dodging eggs raining down on that wild head of bronze hair from the vantage point of her second-story bedroom window. It’s revenge, she decides. For lying in wait with her mom at the hospital yesterday. For backing her into a corner until she had no choice but to agree to this. He’ll live if he gets a bit of egg on him.
Almost as if sensing her thoughts, he frowns. It looks out of place on him, carving faint lines into his otherwise perfect face that don’t quite belong there. In fact, it makes him look a little less handsome. Beth would love it if he frowned more. She’d feel a lot less intimidated by him. Or maybe that has more to do with the fact that he’s going to marry her cousin and play a hand in Renaissance's traumatic birth.

Violet blinked, her little lashes fluttering like a trapped bird. She didn’t know why, but something low in her stomach curled, a slow, insistent twist.
The name the girl spoke was a word that felt as foreign as it was familiar.“Hi,” she said after a long pause, her voice hesitant but curious. “I’m Petunia.”
Violet's heart beat louder, faster. Her mind recoiled, but there was no way to make sense of it. She didn’t know this child. She couldn’t place her, couldn’t name her, couldn’t even remember ever seeing her before—but the name Petunia... it didn’t belong here.
