—“Trouble in paradise already, Torchie?” He quipped, voice dripping with delight. He waggled his eyebrows as he leaned forward, glancing between the two with the slow grin of someone fully aware he’s fanning flames. “Is he not keeping up with you, Itsy-Bitsy? You know you can tell Daddy Deadpool all about it.”
Peter didn’t break eye contact with Johnny. “He wants to hear about it.”
“Peter…” Johnny groaned, voice strained, like he was trying to hold the world together with sheer willpower.
“It’s not going to hurt to ask him.”
“It’s gonna hurt me to ask him,” Johnny muttered darkly, casting a side-eye toward Wade like he was debating whether spontaneous combustion was an acceptable exit strategy.
Wade perked up, as if someone had just tossed him a grenade full of gossip and sin. “Ask me what?”
Peter shifted nervously, cheeks flushing, and caught his bottom lip between his teeth. “Well, um—”

Jason takes a deep breath in, matching Bruce's unshakeable calmness. It's the first time in a long time that Jason feels like he can actually breathe.

So why, now, as Peter watches another woman cling to Johnny’s arm and laugh too loudly at his jokes, did a bitter, twisted, feeling sink into his chest?

Wade bounced on the balls of his feet, box in gloved hands. “I have a surprise for you two,” he announced, grinning with his whole mask, eyes crinkling as he presented the artifact—a small cube, black as old pitch, its surface crawling with ancient, indecipherable symbols that glimmered faintly red.
Peter’s voice was wary, stretched thin. “‘Pool, what is that—”
Johnny, ever the faster draw, stepped back, instincts sharp. “What the fuck?” He eyed the box like it was about to explode.
Wade’s voice pitched up, sugar-sweet. “Surprise!” And then, with the enthusiasm of a child hurling a water balloon, he lobbed the box straight at them.
