Aemond hissed a curse, slumping back into his chair. Outside, the waves continued their song, joined by the whispering wind. He flexed his fingers, mismatched eyes fixed upon the light as it shifted. He had been stripped of his clothes, the fine leather replaced with what felt like a cotton shift—more suited to an Essosi whore than a prince. They had even taken his boots, leaving his feet bare against the cool sand. We must be on a beach then, he thought. Hidden away in some secret cove. Faraway from friendly shores.
“I’m going to die here, aren’t I?” He announced to the silence, adding a humorless laugh for good measure. “I suppose my brother was right to warn me…the gods do indeed withdraw their favor as swiftly as it is given.”
“Well,” replied a deep voice, dripping with dry amusement. “I don’t know about that, sweetheart. The way I see it, your luck just took a marked turn for the better.”

Sophie keeps on blowing raspberries, spit flying, but hey, at least she is keeping herself occupied. Max keeps walking, and everyone lets him pass. He feels people stop in their tracks and turn around to stare at him. Each garage going quiet as he passes, and then the next, and then the next. Some pup drops the wheel gun as he whirls around, mouth dropped to the floor.
