—Птенчик?—голос Джейсона изменился, смягчился до чего-то хрупкого, словно он обращался маленьким ребёнком. Возможно, в его глазах Тим именно им и был. Такое знакомое прозвище—столь неправильное, столь нежное—пронзило Тима насквозь. Джейсон никогда его так не называл. Джейсон никогда не обращался к нему с теплотой.
Джейсон ненавидел Тима.
Тим крепко зажмурился, отчаянно молясь, чтобы все это оказалось лишь жестоким сном. Но затем теплые руки обхватили его лицо, возвращая его к реальности. По пещере разнесся металлический лязг—резкий и окончательный. Пистолет упал на пол.
—Нет. Нет. Нет, Птенчик, пожалуйста не закрывай свои голубые глаза. Посмотри на меня…—на этот раз голос Джейсона дрогнули, превратившись в мольбу. Каждое слово было подрагивало от страха, от нужды, которая заставляла грудь Тима болезненно сжаться. Тим проглотил всхлип, солёный вкус слез и крови заполнил рот, он заставил себя поднять взгляд и встретиться с ядовито-зелёным пламенем глаз Джейсона. Он чувствовал лёгкий дрожь в руках Джейсона, холод пола своими коленями—и всё это заставило его натянуться в напряжении.
