Louis hated him, and that patronising tone of his, hated how he scolded and mocked and humiliated, how he did it so easily, like it was his God-given right. He should be grovelling, Louis thought senselessly, I should’ve made him grovel, and what have I done instead?
Louis takes Lestat back after six years, and nothing has changed.

Summary
On the hunt for a story to get himself out of his current funk, Daniel Molloy is drawn to the tragedy that has struck a small community in rural Louisiana.
Meanwhile, Louis de Pointe du Lac is trying to keep his head above water despite all the occurrences threatening the calm of his domestic life: a classmate of his daughter's is missing, his father-in-law has just passed, he suspects his husband has been unfaithful, and now a journalist is snooping around his family home.
As Molloy's investigation progresses, Louis feels increasingly less safe in St. Augustine's Parish.
