Summary
Eddie couldn’t help but picture himself where the older man stood, imagining how he’d be shaking like a leaf, nervous as sin, and excited as hell to be there. How he’d be smiling at his guests, his friends and family, before feeling his heart swell and his smile grow when the music changed and Buck started toward him, Maddie’s hands resting on the crook of his elbow as she prepared to give him away.
He would be teary-eyed as the pair made it down to him, easily accepting Buck’s hands after Maddie kissed both their cheeks.
Or: Eddie does not hold his peace when the officiant says “Speak now”.

Summary
The pain was keeping him alert, adrenaline of the situation keeping him moving as the doors finally opened and he stumbled into the metal box, gracelessly collapsing against the wall and towards the ground.
Before the doors could fully close, however, they were pushed open by a hand that Eddie would recognize anywhere.
Buck.
Or: The speculation fic for the elevator scene in episode 9x18.

Summary
The two texts came in almost simultaneously.
Eddie
Can you come over?Chris
I need ur helpThere had been no hesitation on his part, with Buck grabbing his keys and immediately headed for South Bedford Street. While he wasn’t panicked since no one had actually called him, he was on high alert, not exactly sure what he was about to step into. For both the Diaz boys to message though, he had some idea and hoped that he was wrong.

Chris doesn’t end up in Texas, but with Buck. Which leaves Buck to navigate surprise parenthood, feelings realizations, crazy parents, and his best friend all at once.

Summary
The drive home was quieter, Chris barely awake in the backseat and the window rolled down slightly. Buck hadn’t repeated what him and Chris talked about but had assured him that he was okay and it was nothing that Chris wouldn’t tell him on his own. There was no doubt when he said it, like it was a foregone conclusion that Chris would come around.
Eddie let his thoughts wander as he drove the familiar route, the same route he had been driving for nearly three years. The house to the apartment, the apartment to the house; he could probably do it in his sleep. He thought about Ana, about how he liked her, how he could envision bringing her back to Texas to meet his parents and how they’d approve of her.
But it didn’t warm him the way he thought it would, or should.
Or: After picking Christopher up from Buck’s, Eddie can’t help but to wonder if he missed something in his Captain’s advice.

Summary
“How did you do it? When it was Maddie?”
“Which time? When Dispatch was held hostage or when Amber kidnapped her?”
“Either? Both. I was just… so sure that I wouldn’t find him, or I’d be too late. Just to realize I wasn’t even looking for the right people.”
Or: Eddie and Chim have a conversation about their respective Buckley getting kidnapped, which includes the feelings when they were found. It leads to some retrospection and a realization.

Summary
He jerks away from her, hisses. "Tell me where he is," he demands. "I know something is wrong—I felt it, when I was under, I—I need to know he's okay, Hen."
Hen swallows, shaking her head. "He's…he's in the hospital, Eddie. But—"
Eddie's knees give out. He falls directly onto them, ignoring the way Hen and Chim immediately squat down beside him, hands that aren't Buck's touching him, trying to get him to relax. It's like the nightmare won't end, he thinks. Like this is the shift from hell that'll never stop.
"I need him," he whimpers. "I need—Buck."
OR: Buck gets hurt while Eddie is trapped underground in "Eddie Begins."

Summary
It’s one of the rare occasions where Buck has a day off work that Eddie doesn’t also take off, and Eddie is…. fine with that.
Totally fine.
Buck is spending the day with his boyfriend, allowing them to have a full seventy two hours off shared together, and frankly, Eddie has seen enough of the two of them as a couple. He doesn’t need to be there.
Only, a few hours into the shift, Eddie gets a call from Tommy.
Just Tommy.

Summary
"Hey, you made it."
Buck turns toward the voice, already saying "sorry, he's got a lot of energy, he's—" and then he gets a look at the swim instructor, and the rest of the sentence walks off a cliff.
Because the swim instructor is shirtless.
Obviously he's shirtless, he's a swim instructor, that's the dress code, Buck understands this intellectually. What Buck did not account for is that the swim instructor would look like that — like someone took every good idea the human body has ever had and put them all in one place and then made him relaxed about it on top of everything, loose, smiling at Buck like Buck isn't a sweating disaster clutching a four-year-old by the swim shirt.
"I'm Eddie," the swim instructor says, and sticks out a hand.
"Buck," Buck says, eventually. He shakes the hand. The hand is tan, and big, and — no. He's not doing this. There's a child present. Several children.
"And this must be Theo."
Or,
Buck falls for Theo's swim instructor, literally.Bookmarked by Gingerific

Summary
Two hours later, Buck is out of coloring books and stickers, and Theo has not stopped using him as a runway for the robot toy to launch off. There are toys strewn across the living room and the kitchen, and now Theo is climbing on Buck like he’s a jungle gym. The toddler squeals with delight, one arm draped over Buck’s shoulder as he plasters himself to the man’s back, toy whooshing through his curls and into the air.
“Theo, why don’t we sit down and watch a movie?” Buck offers, watching the toy as it sails through the air and falls to the floor just in front of the TV.
“I wanna play,” Theo insists, wrapping his arms around Buck’s neck and squeezing.
“Theo, buddy, that’s too tight,” Buck gets out, gently—but firmly—prying the boy’s arms apart so he’s no longer being choked by a four-year-old. “Gentle hands, okay?”
“What’re gentle hands?”
or, buck tries to placate theo with a movie. things don't go as planned. eddie comes to the rescue.

Summary
The phone lights up on the coffee table. It's a number he half-recognizes — a few weeks back a package for his apartment went to 4D by mistake, and he texted the guy to sort it out, and the guy wrote back a paragraph and a half about how the mail situation in this building was, his words, "a war crime." Eddie didn't save the number. He meant to. It just lives in his phone now as a stranger, and the stranger is texting him.
Unknown: hey. HEY. ok this is the package guy from 4D. ur 4B. i need to ask u somethign and its important
Unknown: u have the good dog right
Eddie: Who is this?
Unknown: i JUST said. package guy. 4D. anyway i hear his little feet in the hallway sometiems. tap tap tap. like a tiny gentleman. and i need to know hes real
Eddie knows who this is. Big guy, loud, holds the elevator and then narrates the entire ride down.
Eddie: Are you drunk?
Unknown: thats a seperate issue from the dog
Which is not a no.
Eddie: [image]
Unknown: OH MY GOD
