Summary
“You’re not the other model,” Noctis muses. He tilts his head, eyes flicking over Prompto’s—well—everything again.
The compliment in Noctis’ assumption hits him full force on a second delay. His cheeks burn so brightly they’ll probably need to put the fan on early in order to cool the room back down.
Prompto’s reaction spills out in a nervous laugh and Noctis visibly chews on the inside of his cheek to bite back his own smile.
“Mr Argentum took those pictures of Lunafreya for Wild Wilderness you’re so fond of,” Ignis supplies helpfully.
“Oh,” Noctis breathes. “Okay. Wow. Okay.”Five (5) times Prompto is paid to take Noctis' photograph and the one (1) time he gets to do it for free.

Summary
Nyx’s job is to take Noctis home—back to the Citadel—to seal him away again after a tiny foray into freedom but he wants to give him something. It’s irrational and illogical, Nyx shouldn’t care, he should just be protecting Noctis’ body from harm, that’s what he’s paid to do, but what good is all that effort if Noctis is just crumbling apart on the inside.
“Hey,” Nyx says softly. Noctis’ eyes fly up at once, meeting Nyx’s in the rear view. In the dim lighting the blue of them is all icy—Nyx suppresses a shiver and pretends that’s why. “You wanna drive back?”
Noctis sits up, eyes a little wide. Nyx looks away, has to, in order to avoid saying something they’ll both regret.
“You’d let me?” Noctis asks, voice barely audible.
Nyx shrugs.Alternatively: Noctis has always been more than just a job to him.

Noctis has known Ignis for fifteen or so years now and he doesn’t think he’s ever seen him blush. Not since he’s been aware enough to look out for it at least.
Does Ignis blush? Does Gladio bring it out of him when Noctis isn’t looking?
Is there something Noctis could do to fluster him?
Noctis cannot think of anything he’s ever wanted more.Alternatively: Noctis wants to make his boyfriend blush. That's all.

Summary
Atsumu believes in love at first sight, because his Ma says it's real. After all, she's still in love with their Dad even though he up and left before either of them could string three words together. So yeah, love at first sight might be real, and it might be everlasting, but it also sucks and Atsumu wants nothing to do with it.
The ball curls right into the corner of the court, spinning up into the crowd and Atsumu gawps as Itachiyama’s spiker lands neatly on his feet and turns to confer with his setter.
"Who is that?” Atsumu blurts.
Aran follows his eyes, sounds bored when he utters the two greatest words Atsumu has ever heard in his short life.
“Sakusa Kiyoomi.”
Gently, Aran smacks Atsumu on the back of his head, breaking him out of his stupor. “Are you warming up or are you drooling?”
Both—Atsumu is excellent at multitasking.Alternatively: When it comes to Kiyoomi, Atsumu loves him and loves him and loves him and never stops. Even when he tries, even when it’s the smart thing for him to do.

Summary
Prompto carefully tugs open the garment bag, exposing the edge of a dark, slate grey suit and wine coloured shirt.
“Try it on, we don’t have much time for adjustments,” Loqi demands.
“What’s it for?” Prompto wonders. He already has a suit, wore it to meet the Caelum clan that first day, wears it pretty much any time he’s allowed to leave his room. They are a family with standards after all.
“If you manage not to fuck this up, I’m taking you to meet your fiance,” Loqi tells him.
Prompto’s adjusting the sleeve of his jacket when Loqi speaks, and it takes him several seconds to really understand what he’s saying.
“Wait—what?”Alternatively: After trying and failing to inact a prophecy that will return his vampire clan to their former glory, the least Noctis can do is agree to a marriage in order to avoid an escalation of war.

“Firstly, I’d like to commend you for your attempt at discretion,” Ignis says. “It’s very mature of you.”
Noctis blinks down at the surface of his drink, utterly confused as to what Ignis is talking about.
“However, it’s important to tell you that you’re not doing as good of a job of pretending you don’t have a boyfriend as you seem to think you are.”
Boyfriend.
Ignis thinks he has a boyfriend. Gladio too, it seems.
Noctis does not have a boyfriend.Alternatively: Extremely late to realising his feelings for Prompto are not as platonic as he thought, there's only one thing Noctis can do. Ask Ignis and Gladio for advice on how to confess.

Kageyama's hands move over Shoyo’s back, tracing the characters that make up Kageyama printed onto the jersey; he shudders slightly, other hand flexing at Shoyo’s hip.
“Oh,” Shoyo breathes.
Kageyama didn’t mention it, so Shoyo half figured he hadn’t noticed it.
“You like me in your clothes, ‘Yama?” Shoyo teases. “You like me in your name?”Alternatively: Shoyo wears Kageyama's jersey to one of his games and his boyfriend has a somewhat unexpected reaction.

Summary
They fall together with remarkable ease, an agreement that works for both of them. A way to relieve stress, a safe way to deal with any pent up tension. Atsumu's silly fancy from when he was a teenager is a thing of the past, Kiyoomi barely remembers the brazen confessions, the earnestness of those feelings.
“I—” Atsumu hesitates, looking up with a jerk. He looks panicked, frantic and unsure with wide eyes and a trembling mouth. Kiyoomi is scared too, the shape of Atsumu is still burned inside his body but his chest has already gone hollow.
“I like you,” Atsumu says. “I like you so much.” He pauses for a long moment before amending, “I love you. I’m sorry.”
It was never supposed to be like this.Alternatively: Five (5) times Atsumu (kind of) confesses and the one (1) time Kiyoomi takes his turn.

“What happened with the chancellor yesterday?” Clarus asks
Regis’ pen stops on the page. He glances up, but meeting his oldest friend’s eye makes the words even harder to find. He looks away again.
“He made me an offer. For peace,” Regis says. In his periphery he sees Clarus lean forward eagerly.
“That’s great,” Clarus says. “When do we—”
“More of an ultimatum, really.”
Clarus goes still.Alternatively: The Chancellor may have him backed into a corner but Regis is determined not to let his children-blood or otherwise-suffer for his sake.

“You should just go back to bed,” Prompto says. “I’ll be there in a minute.”
Noctis sighs and gets back to his feet. Prompto thinks he might have won, even though it’s not much of a fight, until Noctis swings his leg over the side of the tub and starts to climb inside.
“You’ll get wet,” Prompto argues.
“Yeah.”
“You’ll get cold.”
“No shit.”
“Noctis—”Alternatively: Prompto forgets to put on sunscreen and suffers more than he could have anticipated.

Hinata’s a little different, but mostly the same. They’re both different, but when Kageyama looks at him, across the net, across the hall and through the little pictures on his phone he feels the exact same way.
Whenever Kageyama’s pictured their reunion in his mind sex has never been at the forefront. Even though the rare occasion he considers sex at all, the partner in his mind always takes Hinata’s form.
“I don’t really ever think about it,” Kageyama admits.
“About hooking up with that guy?”
“No,” Kageyama says. He feels heat crawl onto his face. Hinata all but coos. “Sex.”Alternatively: Kageyama just had fun losing a volleyball game. If only he had the words to tell Hinata what that really means.

Summary
“So, we’re playing truth or dare,” Hinata blurts.
“Okay.”
Maybe it’s good Kageyama didn’t go—truths and dares seem equally dangerous.
Hinata takes a deep breath and his next words come so fast Kageyama can barely understand then, “They dared me to come in here and kiss you.”
Kageyama might have been able to carry on as he was before this—before he knew. Kissing Hinata felt right, underneath all the awkwardness, underneath the tremor of worry Kageyama was doing something wrong. Now he’ll never be able to think of anything else, wondering and hoping he might ever get another chance. Ten chances, a thousand, an infinite number of chances to kiss Hinata Shōyō.Alternatively: Kageyama might not be handling the revelation that he likes Hinata all that well, if he’s being honest.

“I think we should have sex.”
Zack freezes, his mind grinding to a halt. There’s no way he could have predicted that coming out of Cloud’s mouth, today, with no warning.
“It’s really the perfect time for us to—to take the next step,” Cloud mumbles, staring away somewhere over Zack’s right ear.
Zack wonders if he’ll ever get to hear Cloud say something so plainly forward as we should have sex ever again.
“Why?” Zack asks.
“You’ve met my mom,” Cloud says. “I’ve met your—your Angeal.”Alternatively: As always, it's Cloud pushing them onward.

Interviewers always spin his answer to imply Noctis hated growing up in a small town, how he chafed at the confines and longed for the big city but that’s not really true, just a picture they paint, the story they want to tell. Not what’s true.
All Noctis wanted was music, and he simply didn’t think there was space anywhere for him to do that but Tokyo.
What point is there to music if there’s no audience clamouring to hear it?
But now, back here pouring his heart into a boy that will never hear him sing—he knows he was wrong. About so, so many things.Alternatively: Noctis' despondant life as an Idol is interrupted by the most unexpected person.

Summary
The edges of Hammerhead are so dark Aranea’s heart dips with each step she takes. She shouldn’t, she’s only making it harder for herself, but she turns to take one last look at what she’s leaving behind, at what she’s about to fight to return home to again.
Solara is bundled up against Cindy’s leg, gripping the hem of her shorts like she’s frightened she’ll disappear if she lets go. They’re standing beside a motorbike, mechanical parts spilling onto the ground, Solara, slowly peeking around to follow along with what Cindy is telling her.
“They’ll be fine,” Biggs assures her, pressing her lance into her hands before she’s quite ready for it.
“Yeah,” Aranea manages.
A gloved hand claps her shoulder and Aranea half turns to cut Wedge a glare to cover up the way exhaustion almost buckles her knees.
“So will you,” Wedge promises. “We’ll make sure of it.”Alternatively: Aranea survives Gralea with something more than she ever expected. And it doesn't stop there.

Kaoru is not cold when Kojiro gets back from Italy, but they do not fall back into each other the way Kojiro expects, wants, needs, and craves. Kojiro agrees to the beef because of the tantalising promise in Kaoru’s request—“I’m going to do whatever I want to you. With you.”
“Don’t pout when you lose,” Miya says with all the gravitas of his fourteen years.
“When?”
“Uh huh,” Miya says. “We all know Cherry has this.”
“Oh yeah?” Kojiro urges.
Miya glances over at Kaoru. “He clearly wants it more.”Alternatively: Carla could never be a replacement for Kojiro, Kaoru was foolish to ever entertain the thought.

“Are you enjoying your time in Insomnia?” Cor asks, words stilted.
Ulric looks at him, surprise widening his eyes. Cor watches his throat bob with an uneasy swallow.
“The Citadel is very—it’s very beautiful,” Ulric says. “And large.”
Cor thinks it over as they make a complete set of the footwork, trying to spare enough attention to ensure he’s not coming anywhere close to crushing any toes beneath his own.
“They’re not letting you outside,” Cor guesses.
Ulric shakes his head, “My guard is very particular about it."Alternatively: Cor agrees to wed Nyx Ulric; for the good of the people.

“Your Majesty,” Ignis says. “They’re ready for you.”
“Thank you, Ignis,” Dad says. “We’ll see you in a moment.”
And then, blessedly, the throne room is empty of everyone but Noctis and Ignis.
Ignis steps close, like earlier in the fitting room, adjusts the chains on Noctis’ shoulder where they've been set askew. His hands stroke across Noctis’ shoulders and Noctis should be used to that by now, but it makes the hair on the back of his neck stand up, makes his heart thump so hard it must be audible.
“Back in order,” Noctis asks breathlessly.
“Exceptionally handsome,” Ignis says, voice low to match. “Just like always.”Alternatively: It's Noctis' eighteenth birthday so it's time for him to be presented to the world. Officially.

“Where are you from?” Loqi asks abruptly.
“Lucis,” Prompto tells him, answers so fast he knows it comes across defensively.
Loqi’s eyes narrow and he looks Prompto up and down, his disbelief as palpable as his distaste.
“Who are your parents?”
Prompto sighs, blowing back the long part of his hair.
“My foster parents are scientists,” Prompto says. “I don’t know about my birth parents.”
“So, you’re no one,” Loqi sneers. “How charming.”Alternatively: The first Niflheim-Lucis peace keeping mission is going to go off without a hitch. How can it not, when Prompto and Loqi have the command?

Summary
They pull up outside Seventh Heaven and Cloud isn’t annoyed, because they only live a five-minute walk from the bar, but Aerith definitely said: I’ll drop you right home.
“Can you grab some of the bags?” Aerith asks. “I’ll be right in.”
Cloud hasn’t won an argument all day, so he slips out of the car and grabs two fistfuls of bags from the backseat. Aerith stays in the front, tapping away at her phone again. Cloud still hasn’t heard anything all day, not from anyone. He should have insisted on another kiss from Zack this morning, should have given in and said happy anniversary even when it seemed like Zack was completely oblivious.
Cloud misses Zack after just a day—when did he become such a sap?Alternatively: Zack forgets their anniversary. Cloud does not care. Nope. Not even a little bit.
