    The ghost of Billy Hargrove leaned in the open window of Steve’s car with that trademark smirk and, honestly, Steve was kind of impressed by how detailed his own hallucination could be.
    “Wanna fuc-What the shit? HARRINGTON?”
    They blinked at one another for about ten seconds before Steve’s brain finally managed to fire off a thought.
    “You’re real?”
    Steve couldn’t stop the words from spilling out of his mouth, his own stupidity a constant echo in his empty head. Billy’s face reflected his thoughts as he yanked on the door handle until Steve reached over to hit the lock with shock-numb fingers.
    “Real fucking freezing. Let me in, pencil dick.”

    This story features an OC named Meryll Frey. When I was looking over the family tree of House Frey, I noticed that it was mentioned that Merrett Frey fathered four daughters before having a son, but only three of the daughters were named. Two of the named daughters were familiar to me -- Fat Walda and Gatehouse Ami. And the son is also somewhat prominent in the book -- Little Walder, Ramsay's squire. So to me, this was a very interesting family, and I started to wonder about that fourth daughter ... and that's where Meryll came from!

    So, he'd gotten her profession off the guards. "Didn't your informant tell you?"

    "Could be I want the dinky di straight from ya' pretty mouth," he posited. Tamry shrugged.

    "Could be there's a lot of rules when you're a detective. Maybe I was tired of having to break them." It wasn't any secret.

    Again came that wide grin. "Oh, darl', that's beauty. You and ol' Captain are gonna be fast mates, I reckon."

    "Oh, I can't wait," she responded dryly.

    "Call me Captain, darl'."

    Tamry laughed, a strange and breathless sound she'd never heard before. "I'm not calling you Captain," she insisted, grinning heatedly at him. Harkness smirked, pinching between his thumb and the side of his index finger, making her yelp softly.

    "I reckon you'll call me whatever I say, Tem Tam," he told her in a cocky growl. She just shook her head at him, so he pinched harder. This time she cried out, her spine arching involuntarily. "Go on, love. Say it."

    Slow burn is the best burn, but the dirty bits start in chapter four, if you're an impatient sort of sinner. ;)
