    What if Merle escaped Atlanta on his own and tried to make his way back to the group? What if Sophia went deeper into the forest instead of to the barn? What if he came across Sophia and promised to get her back to her mother? What if they showed up at the farm together, with Merle exhausted and near-death? What if Merle nearly died at the farm and the Atlanta group doted on him, feeling bad for leaving him behind? What if Merle redeemed himself, realised the importance of sticking together, got clean and became a beloved part of the group?
