Summary
Instead of doing what he has always wanted to do, Hyunjin does what he always used to do when he was on the brink of self-destruction. He lifts his arm to rest over Chan’s waist, tucks himself under the man’s chin, and breathes in a scent of sweat, old spice deodorant, and a spritz of good, cheap cologne.
Chan traces his fingers over Hyunjin’s back, but eventually ends up in their same old position, their same old comfort zone. With his hand tangled into the hair at Hyunjin’s nape, his phone still rattling through a Danny Gonzalez video somewhere between them, and the smell of Hyunjin’s coconut-infused shampoo filling his nose, he finally feels ready to fall into their old routine again.
Hopefully, it doesn’t end as abruptly as the last time.

Summary
When Hyunjin was a child, he could ignore the way his kingdom was run. He could ignore the people outside the castle walls, their broken expressions turned towards him, a plea in their eyes. He could ignore the way his father, their king, ignored them.
As he grew, the kingdom grew with him. His line of sight stretched over the castle walls, and the city revealed itself like a horror novel with a jump scare on every page. Around every corner, something was wrong. Through every door in the outer districts, someone was either committing a crime or having a crime committed against them.
The brutality that he witnessed, the secrets he had to keep, the sickness he saw but couldn’t cure. Everything that made a city great, that made it whole, was missing, and nothing could be done to bring it back.
Not with Hyunjin’s father as King.
And not with Hyunjin as King either.

Summary
He’s wearing green-coloured contacts. One of them has shifted a bit off centre, showing a deep brown underneath that, to Chan, looks a lot better with his skin tone. His forehead is partially hidden by a curtain of long, dark hair that has been half tugged out of its updo, but Chan sees that one side of his face is significantly redder than the other.
He’s…pretty.
This man could be somebody’s muse. He could pose for a painting and have it sold for millions.
If the man didn’t reek of cherry cough syrup and vodka, maybe Chan would have been…somewhat attracted to him. He did toy with the idea of bisexuality in university, but that was before he met Kiyomi (the girlfriend waiting for him in his bed, probably already asleep, definitely mad because he hasn’t called).
The man’s bottom lip wobbles as he averts his gaze, and Chan has to fight yet another urge to run his thumb under the stranger’s eye, right over a small, dark beauty mark. He wants to make sure that no more of this man’s tears hit the ground. The ground isn’t deserving of such grace.
Chan stops his hand before it can move because that’s insane.

“I started to like myself when he died. I never could before. I would always have his voice in my head, saying I’m too much, I’m too sensitive, I need to grow some balls.” Hyunjin is panting now, and he feels so fucking good. “He said that I was weak for having any feelings besides anger; what he didn’t know was that I was angrier than him most of the time. I hated him with everything I am, and I still do, but it took so much energy to hate him that it started to morph into self-hatred. I started to believe him at some point, and obviously I still do believe him, but I don’t want to anymore.
“He’s had his claws in me for too long, Chan,” Hyunjin groans, and he watches as Chan licks his lips. “He’s dead, but I still feel him watching me. I hate it, but it’s there. It gets quiet sometimes, but when I get stressed, it all comes rushing back, and I feel like I need to leave everyone behind because I’m not good enough to be around them.”
“You are!” Chan protests, reaching out to cup Hyunjin’s jaw. His hand is so warm in the cool night air, so strong against his frail skin.
Maybe it’s strong enough to hold him up when he can’t do it himself.

“Gonna ask nicely now?” Chan leans down, thumb pressing so hard against Hyunjin’s chin it makes his lips part with a slick pop. “Huh? C’mon, Hyunjinnie, good girls ask nicely, don’t they?”
The humiliation burns through him and makes him gasp. It’s like getting stabbed in the chest, a shard of ice notching between his ribs and then melting to pool icy cold in his stomach. He nods, and Chan smiles so brightly it’s like looking directly into the sun. Hyunjin’s gut turns over.
“Please, oppa,” he mumbles, voice warped by how unyielding Chan’s fingers are against his jaw. “Please fuck me.”

A thought can be confessed. A want can be swallowed. Desire can live in the body as long as the hands stay clean.
