I finally made time to read this and I am so glad, because this is a masterpiece I could not put down once I started
I understood why author said to have faith nearly immediately, but for me, the "have faith" part wasn't even necessary because I was already sucked in. If you're reading this and haven't read the fic yet, I fully recommend you do so because it's about to get spoilery in here
The pov switch after ten(ish) chapters was jarring initially, but I am so so so happy it was done, because it allowed us into Jimin's and Yoongi's brains too. Having all the different povs gave us access to two and a half different fic types. The narcissism from Tae, the investigating from Yoongs, and the survivorship from Jimin.
I want to mention the emotions captured from all of the characters, since I was made to feel empathy for all of them, while also being made to see the negative sides of them, and it was so artfully balanced
Taehyung to me feels like a perfectly written narcissist. If you want to understand the way a narcissist's mind works, read this Tae. The absolute inability to take accountability for anything, the blame shifting, hurting Jimin then saying it's Jimin's fault entirely. The focus on reputation, the seemingly innate ability to change personality on demand. I also appreciated the twisted concept of love Tae has, and how real it felt to him
When Jimin finally leaves him, the proceeding depression he falls into was so perfectly encapsulated that I broke down into tears. The bit where he's trying to psych himself up to get back in the pool, mentally so in it that it almost feels successful, just for the fatigue to consume him again. Ugh. I relate to that on a personal level, and can say the accuracy caved in my chest and made me put the story down for a few minutes just so I could cry about it
Taehyung one hundred percent earned every piece of suffering he encountered in this fic, and yet I still suffered with him. Perfectly executed.
When he killed that dude at the bar, I was like, "Are we watching the birth of a serial killer rn? Dude's gonna find Jimin over and over, and kill him/her when they're not Jimin?" But nahhh, why do that when he can just KIDNAP THE REAL JIMIN AND STUFF HIM IN THE UNDERCELLAR, AMIRITE??
The paaaaain from Jimin, the confusion of love and fear, when he finally broke after Tae "finally loved him", ugh, another moment to weep for. The chapter of Jimin being trapped was my favorite, I think. The whole thing. Just all of it. The build up of trying and failing repeatedly to escape, the beating, the pain-smut, the suicide attempt, the room reveal. That chapter could've been its own fic and I would've eaten that shit up with a spoon, okay. Delectably painful, thank you for the meal
YOONGIIIIII. Meeting the real Yoongi and not the mystified or perfected version of himself that Tae and Jimin give us, oh hoh hoh (another perfect writing moment, jfc), I was like okay. Okay, so Yoongs raised Jimin, his character is awwwfully similar to Taehyung's in terms of his readiness to jump to violence and his temper. Like mehaps there's a reason he fell for Tae? Like you know the trope of falling in love with people who remind you of your caretakers, well.
I could see Taehyung representing the ugly side of Yoongi that Jimin doesn't consciously acknowledge, and Jungkook being the side of Yoongi that Jimin "romanticizes". I don't mean that in an incestuous way, just that Jimin had this whole "my brother is perfect and he loves me more than anything and he would do anything to protect me", while also not really acknowledging how much Yoongi doesn't do for him? Like the way my dude just kinda fell off the face of the planet to live his own life, then comes back screaming at Jimin to "save" him from himself. This paragraph is a jumble, but this is my Yoongles theory okay
I thought Jungkook was dead at the end, and when I tell you I heard a choir of angels the second I read he was still alive
THE WAY I WANTED TAE TO BE DEAD, JUST TO HAVE HIM IN COURT, GOD
The final thing I wanna say about this fic is the realism is out of this world. The emotions of all the characters above, the real life happenings like court, the way everyone interacted with each other, the friend group just adopting Tae's shitty way of being
I'm very into the sadism fetish and I honestly came here expecting mostly that, just to find this entire fleshed out world waiting for me instead. Ultimately, it was too real (painful) to really tick that fantasy fetish for me, but holy god was the story I got instead absolutely worth it

“The Busan Butcher” comes Jungkook’s steely correction, his long fingers gripping the liquor bottle in his hands exceptionally tight.
Jimin can't help but remember the night he saw those fingers coated in blood. His gaze wanders up to Jungkook’s face and the younger stares right back, eyes like tar.
