Summary
When Grace first wakes up on the Hail Mary, a lot of things don't add up. When Rocky mentions a secret room that isn't even shown in the ship's blueprints, Graces starts to slowly figure out that his past life might be a lot more complicated than he first thought.
They find that perhaps one of the cruelest ways to force someone to be a hero is to make their life worth less.

Sometimes his ears ring and he rubs at them to find blood leaking out. Sometimes he gets really dizzy out of nowhere and has to sit down. Sometimes he feels sick to his stomach, like something had died and congealed inside him, and when he throws up, it’s clumpy and red.
But it’s fine. Things are going okay now. He just wants it to last.

"Hunter?" comes a trembling voice. The hand moves from his numb and aching cheek to his forehead, brushing away soaked strands of hair. "H-Hunter, p—please move—"
As much as he doesn’t want to deal with this—as much as he would have loved to remain ignorant and floating in nonexistence forever—he can’t bear to hear that tone coming out of her mouth. He goes to grab her hand, to sit up, to do anything, but the weight of everything is overwhelming, and it’s too much to overcome. I’m here, he wants to reassure her, because Willow isn’t supposed to sound so gut-wrenchingly terrified, but his vocal chords don’t even flex, and his lips stay shut. I’m right here, I’m okay. I promise.
Or: After Hunter gets revived, he's trapped in his own body. The others don't know he's alive.

Rocky. I can’t put this all on the guy right now. He should be happy. We are going to Erid. We are going to save his planet.
“CBC. A complete blood count.” I answer, hoping he doesn’t ask me why.
“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.
