Summary
Twice before, this question had ended them; to think of a third attempt was madness.
But two thousand years of it all - the wars, the treaties, the confessions swallowed, the chances squandered, and the memories of cypress trees - refused to stay buried any longer.
With Dover's white cliffs at his back and Cap Blanc-Nez before him, Arthur's endless stubbornness finally found its end.

Summary
Arthur swallowed, watching Alfred slip into unconsciousness. His thin eyelashes fluttered over baby soft cheeks, though not as round as they should have been. Arthur touched the rim of his ear, delighting how small the translucent shell was. Alfred was a sickly baby, Arthur was under no delusion of the fact. Every time the boy coughed, something seized in his chest.

Summary
He knows the story. [...] XIII century. Francis, one of Romulus's grandchildren. A guardian of the Underworld by training, by appointment, by the inheritance of those with enough of the old blood in them. One day - and the sources differ on the reason, the motive, the degree of forethought involved - Francis came to the surface and took Arthur with him. Arthur, the son of the goddess Angharad, him too a half-mortal. Francis brought him here, to the Underworld, which was either an abduction or a complicated invitation depending on which version of events one could trust.
War followed, a century of it: [...] Romulus intervened eventually, as gods do when the destruction reaches a sufficient scale. He punished Francis the way the gods punish people who are their own blood and whom they love even in anger: a pomegranate, the fruit that came from the underworld and that will bind one's soul to it if eaten under specific rituals. He ate the whole thing before Romulus and Angharad and the Underworld claimed him as a guardian that will not be allowed to the surface anymore.
Surprisingly, Arthur ate half of a pomegranate too.- From Flower of my soul, Act XX -
