And he would’ve, there would be no claws that come to strike him down if he leans in too close, no fangs that bares at his neck were he to sink his teeth into smooth skin, curled into the den of a beast, Mydei knew what he was inviting with each teasing sound, each alluring peer; He would’ve clawed and nipped and bit uncaring of the mess he left in his wake, if the timer ticking above their heads wasn’t rapidly approaching zero, and the chipped stone, the worn pages, mock him with their pristine sides.
This time, the last time, even if they don’t have time…he’ll savor every bite, painstaking carve every line, even if the ravenous beast that craves to devour Mydei whole clangs the metal cage wild.

It can't be.
He's been…craving, longing, dreaming, to hear that voice again for so long. Perhaps he’s gone insane from the wait, the clawing roots of the Black Tide had finally climbed its way into his memories and sunk its venomous barbs into the rusted lock, crumbling his measly attempt at preventing the corruption of the few things he had left from- before. Maybe he’s now no more than a puppet strung along by its strings, following along to the whims of an unseen puppeteer to wrought more calamity than he’d already had; a docile doll with warped limbs and a crooked body hollowed to be nothing but a vessel of an unending tragedy.
Maybe he doesn’t care anymore.

Veritas’s gaze goes everywhere, everywhere but Kakavasha, as if he wasn’t even worth a small glimmer, when he used to be the only one able to stand under the gleaming light and bask in its tender warmth.
“Kakavasha,” Veritas replies, his gaze never left the trees, the grass, the sky, all Kakavasha is allowed to see is the nest of black feathers and the ring of cracked purity, “I believe you remember I dislike meaningless drabble.”
What Aventurine, what Kakavasha heard instead was-
Yes, I do not regret leaving it all behind.
I do not regret leaving you behind.
Perhaps it is the breaking point then, when roaring waves of agony drowns his ears and his throat strains with a sob, a scream, a cry, the point where Aventurine realizes that that gaze was no longer reserved only for him.
Will never gaze upon him ever again.

Summary
Aventurine's hands are removed from their vicious grip, he already misses the sensation of warm thrumming blood just beneath his fingertips, as Ratio stands with no hurry. ‘Run,’ Aventurine wants to say, to scream, to yell, ‘because if you don't, you won't be able to ever again.’
Yet, Aventurine also wants, selfishly, for him to stay, a day, a month, a year, forever. He wants to cut into that flawless skin and rearrange his bones until there is a spot reserved for him to stay with Ratio. A bug, almost; a parasite, definitely.
Instead of running as he should, as anyone would be, his dear doctor rises slowly, using Aventurine's shoulder as a crutch, uncaring that he's touching something of a monster, a stain on humankind, his heart twists and coils and folds. Such innocence, how could someone so intelligent be so naive?
He hates it. (He loves him.)
