Ever since the Clean Sweepstakes, Surge chases the adoration of the people, revelling at the idea of bathing in all the fame and stealing the received hero worship from Sonic. And if she gets to beat up the blue nuisance while she’s at it? That’s even better.
Now if only most of her achievements weren’t based on lies.
Kitsunami, her only companion, fabricated most of the perils and dangers so Surge could play hero. Angry and feeling betrayed, Surge lashes out, chasing the fennec away. Lost, alone and soon haunted by Dr. Starline, she crosses paths with none other than Shadow the Hedgehog on less than friendly terms. What Surge doesn’t realize, however, is that Shadow had once been in a similar position as her and knows what it’s like to have your mind altered, your past erased and voices whispering in your head.
Shadow may act aloof – but his guiding hand may just help Surge find her own path in life – without others manipulating and controlling her.

Summary
Shadow the Hedgehog, Surge the Tenrec, and Metal Sonic. A combination that makes sense but sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. All three of them have one thing in common, they were all somewhat tied down by a certain blue hedgehog. Removing him out of the picture (literally) and putting all three of them in situations wherein they need to rely on each other to survive, maybe, instead of creating disaster they bring hope.
A wasteland AU focused on Shadow, Surge, and Metal Sonic, as one of the few survivors of the desolate earth. Three freaks against the world, the weight of their troubles no longer on their shoulders and replaced by the need to survive, emotions change, characters change, feelings change. The walls they held up for so long slowly crumble as they find out that being in each other’s company isn’t so bad after all.
That is if they don’t start blaming each other from almost dying from the numerous threats that they face in their journey.

Summary
One year after the Clean Sweepstakes culminated in the destruction of Restoration HQ, Sonic is called upon to help stop an Eggman assault on Westopolis, the city his self proclaimed arch rivals, Surge the Tenrec and Kit the Fennec, have claimed as theirs to protect. When an attack intended for Surge hits Sonic instead, he finds himself a potential danger to himself and others, and must rely on the last person he'd ever expect to be in his corner if he wants to remain free.
Sure, she says she's only helping because the Restoration agreed to pay her, but it's the thought that counts. Right?

Honestly, I found it very interesting. I like the characters' personalities and how they develop in the story. But I liked the development of Surge and Kit the most, and how they've addressed the expectations of Sonic and his friends, and how the duo's decisions have helped them grow as heroes.
Being basically in a single city, helping the city and its inhabitants, the duo acts more like a mercenary group than vigilantes, in that they adhere more to the law than Sonic and his friends. I wouldn't be surprised if they had permission from the city, mayor, or police headquarters to act fully if the situation requires it. Such as having the permission of the parents of the kidnapped boy, which led to the root cause of the dismantling of that criminal gang, instead of what Sonic would have done and simply limiting himself to catching the henchmen who kidnapped the boy.
In this case, Surge and Kit told everyone right to their faces, "You can question my methods, but not my results." Plus, having a pair of Techno-organic combat weapons on good terms to deter the bad guys and Eggman's invasions will almost certainly "always be a win-win."
I really liked the way this duo was expected to be, and of course, Surge and Kit's relationship, and the fact that despite their past, they have each other. And that they've learned how to survive in this world and be more than what's expected of them, even if some (like Whisper) don't want to see or acknowledge it.
Sonic needed a hug, but he also needed a firm hand for his own good.
I loved the platypus's return. I wish the comics would do the same. It would give Surge more depth. Literally dealing with his own demons would add more depth to the character, not to mention the fact that he went through what he is now, along with his brother, and that neither of them remember their past.
