“So I’m not…” Bilbo began and was surprised to hear his voice shake. He swallowed hard and folded his hands together tightly, pressing his fingertips against his knuckles to help him focus. “I’m not… broken or bad?”
“Of course not!” came from the others, the ‘Ri brothers and the two princes being the loudest.
“You’re not broken or bad,” Thorin said firmly, but kindly. “You are Bilbo Baggins of Hobbiton and you are the fourteenth member of this company. You are you.”

Summary
The Company has been having a good laugh as the story of their quest spreads through the mountain and more and more retellings makes Thorin out to be Bilbo’s damsel in distress. It stops becoming funny when Thorin’s honor is challenged, and it’s up to Bilbo to defend it. Thorin may be ready to smuggle his hobbit out of the mountain, but Bilbo will do it. For Thorin, he would do anything.

There's much to say of a Hobbit's wit and courage, more so that they're an exceptionally stubborn race who shall not, under any conditions, admit to another soul that they've fallen ill. Hard work, after all, is not achieved by lounging in bed.
Feverish with old wounds and the chill of the Forest River, Bilbo Baggins is unceremoniously intercepted in his sickly calm by a dwarven-prince who meets his stubbornness head-for-head . . . a dwarven-prince who has a few things to say about the nature of Hobbits.
