Rumi thought it was too good to be true, and too lucky for her to have just stumbled across. Either this place wasn't actually as nice as it seemed, or the two people living there couldn't keep a third roommate. Rumi shuddered to think about the countless reasons why that could be, her mind coming up with nothing good.
OR Rumi, a half-demon, has never stayed in one place for too long. She thinks she might finally be able make a life for herself after moving in with Mira, a vampire, and Zoey, a werewolf. The only problem: she can't let them know she's a demon.

And now she was the one who felt like there was something she was supposed to be doing. Something that she was frustratingly close to.
She skips school in Seoul one day—with a group of friends she most definitely shouldn't be around— they hang out late at night drinking stolen bottles of soju and pierce each other's skin with instruments they shouldn't have. They try to entertain themselves— who would've thought that there's nothing to do as teenagers during a school day— and a poster catches Zoey's eye.

She hadn’t mean to kill Joon, he had bit her and biting wasn’t okay, so she hit him. But then her hand was wet and Joon was still and broken.
He didn’t look like a Joon anymore, just a smudge on the white wall. Rumi stared at the spot for a long time, so long she could feel her insides twisting, and at the end she pressed the tip of her finger to the mark, trying to feel if there was softness left. There wasn’t, only a roughness and a little tiny hard piece that might have been a leg. When her finger came away it was brown at the tip. She wiped it on the knee of her pants.
For a while, she didn’t move. She could feel the cold in her toes, seeping up from the floor. Even the cuffs around her wrists felt cold, tight, itchy in a way that made her want to scratch until her skin came off. She couldn’t look away from the stain on the wall. She wondered what would happen to the rest of Joon’s web, now that the builder was gone. Would another spider come? Maybe spiders had families, and a Joon-mom or Joon-brother would crawl out soon and find the body, and then what? Scream, or cry? Would they even care?
