Summary
Her daughter is five years old when Ursa realises what she and Ozai have been doing to their children. By each choosing one to bestow with their approval, they’re pitting them against one another. Perhaps Ozai is doing it on purpose, but Ursa isn’t. She resolves to heal the damage she has done.
In which Ursa tries to be a better parent to Azula, and it doesn’t change very much. And then, quite abruptly, it changes everything.

oh my god, this fic was absolutely fabulous. i loved everything about it, and yes, i am a sucker for good relationships between Zuko and Azula.

Azula raises her chin. “Zuko’s life and freedom is second only to mine,” she says, and it’s probably the kindest thing she’s ever said. She’s honestly a little grossed out that she made that declaration in front of Zuko’s peasant friends. She is definitely a little confused by how unimpressed they seem. The waterbender is looking at her like she said something insulting.
Zuko, at least, has the good sense to look stunned. “That’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me,” he tells her, and Azula rolls her eyes for an excuse to look away.*re-read*

Summary
Part of Katara wants to tell him that it’s nothing, she’ll deal with it and then be out in a few minutes. After all, it seems strange to be so frustrated and upset because her hair isn’t cooperating with her, when there are so many other things for them to be focused on.
But then again, Katara remembers when they were younger, after mom died and when dad was there but not there, and Gran-Gran’s hands would ache with the cold, that Sokka would gently and quietly help Katara comb and braid her hair before she learned to do it herself.
Or, Katara is frustrated that her hair won't do what she wants (we've all been there), and Sokka offers to help.

He's always reaching for them, looking at them, making sure they're okay. They were once all he had to hold on to her. “No problem, Toph.”
