Summary
Rogue was too young to remember when her mama—her first mama—died. She thinks, sometimes, that she remembers bits and pieces; waiting for a warm kiss against her forehead that never came, the scratchiness of her crinolines and the pinching of shoes two sizes too small that only mama would have noticed as she sat in the church pew. Another woman—Aunt Carrie, her mother's sister—fussing over her, despairing over this half-feral child. She'd smelled of baby powder, Aunt Carrie, prim and proper and pinching; the smell still sets her teeth on edge. Daddy had sent Aunt Carrie away and spent the years following ranting about her meddling ways, until the line between memory and tale became too blended to see between. It's hazy, softened by time until it is only the occasional passing feeling of absence.
She can't escape Remy LeBeau. 5000 years in the past and half a world away and the pain won't fade a bit.
In the aftermath of an asteroid, Rogue must come to terms with the death of the man she loves, and the world that keeps on going in his absence.
