A typical summer day in rural Japan.
A young boy — no more than 8 years old — is staring at the water, eyes gazing at the sun's waving reflection. His appearance is peculiar, an oddity in this time and place: long honey-brown hair some strands braided together with leaves or feathers, a round cherubic face marred with freckles mimicking constellations in the night sky, and two ruby jewels as red as blood encased by long eyelashes. This boy is alien to the local population. He's as alone as he should be, a bad omen, a curse, a blight upon the land.

Nothing ever went according to plan in Goro’s life. Not even thinking about what he wanted to do with Shido back when he was younger — he’s more grounded than that nowadays, thank you — no, it was always the smaller things.
And today was the biggest example so far.
Today was supposed to be a very special day. It was February 14th, Valentine's Days as all the colors and advertising liked to remind him on his way back home, it was also Akira's birthday. It also marked their 5th year together after the collapse of Maruki’s reality. It should have been the day when Goro proposed to Akira.

Summary
Coming from a large and powerful clan, Goro understands that he has privilege. He wields that privilege to avoid being forced to bond with an Omega he doesn't particularly care for. When a secretive, out-of-town Alpha named Akira is dropped in his lap, Goro teaches him what it means to be an Alpha in his culture.
