Summary
This work is part of the MSR Week 2025 / Day 7: Pick your favorite MSR episode or moment.
I’d never dare to rewrite The Pilot because it’s my favorite MSR episode, but what if, just for a moment, we imagine adding some layers, some shared past between them, before that first basement encounter? I’ve always wondered how it was possible for two people who had known each other for less than twenty four hours to have such chemistry. I know part of it is because Gillian and David are just FREAKS when they’re together, but what if that spark came from somewhere we never saw?
This story begins six months before The Pilot, on an autumn night in October 1991, in a dim, nearly empty bar in Washington D.C. Two strangers. One ride.
The narrative eventually merges with The Pilot. Any lines taken directly from the original episode are not my property, but transcriptions from Chris Carter’s work.

Summary
With Emily cured and legally adopted, Dana Scully has left the X-Files behind, carving out a quieter life as a single mother and instructor at Quantico. In a new home and a new chapter, she’s committed to giving Emily stability, love, and a strong sense of identity. But old ties don’t sever easily. Despite his emotional distance and a life shaped by loss, Fox Mulder slowly begins to form a gentle, genuine connection with Emily.
As Emily pulls him in with innocent trust and boundless curiosity, Mulder is forced to confront questions of belonging, purpose, and the life he thought he’d never want. And for Scully, who’s worked so hard to build a life on her own terms, it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore the ache of wanting something more. Their connection with Emily doesn’t just shift the dynamic, it becomes the quiet catalyst for everything that follows.

Summary
This universe goes divergent after season 8. Mulder and Scully keep William after the events of Existence. This is inspired by a series of prompts, and doesn’t necessarily go in chronological order. Pulled from the Prompt Drabble Collection, it deserves its own universe. Open to further prompts.

Summary
“Why did you sleep over in mommy’s room?”
Emily leans against the doorframe as she drinks, hip propped on the wood, the toes of her right foot fiddling with the loose sock on her left, bidding it “hello” and contributing to a posture at once shy, curious, apathetic—like the smallest little Dana Scully he’s ever seen.

Summary
They ended up at the bar to refresh their drinks when Mulder unexpectedly ordered them shots.
“Trying to get me drunk?” Scully said and looked up at him through her eye lashes. She wanted to make him a little uncomfortable, play with him and his endearing sense of chivalry.
He looked down at her, holding out the second shot glass, and smiled, refusing to take her bait. “Absolutely.”
She glanced back down at the shot glass and sucked in her bottom lip. She was, in fact, already rather drunk. This shot and the martini she had just ordered would probably do her in for the night and they had a flight the following day and, really, she just shouldn’t be getting this drunk with her work partner.
“Come on, Scully,” he said in that deep, beautiful timbre his voice could take on when he wanted to endear himself to her. “It’s your birthday.” He kept saying these words like the designation ‘birthday’ changed the rules. She looked up at him and saw the playful lilt in his eyes. “And I really want to see the remarkable, brilliant, stunning Special Agent Doctor Dana Scully get shit-faced drunk.”Bookmarked by EndlessConfusion

Mulder and Scully take part in an undercover operation, and Mulder learns something about Scully's feelings for him. Takes place in season 6, shortly after The Unnatural.
"He wonders if she’ll find that freeing, knowing that he won't be listening, and no one they know will be listening. In general, they save the truest things for each other. *We neither of us perform to strangers.* But today it might be helpful to perform to an audience of strangers who will soon forget her words."
