Summary
Mel cancels her therapist sessions the very next day, in the early hours of the morning after contemplating the whole night. She won’t need therapy anymore, because she already has a plan.
Mel is going to kill herself.
Now, this isn’t as simple as it sounds. She can’t just jump into the Allegheny on her way to work. She has to be smart about it, because there is one huge caveat: What is going to happen to Becca once she is gone? This is what Mel has been thinking about the entire night, and she has finally come up with a solution.
She needs to befriend Frank Langdon.
Or: Mel comes up with an insane plan and drags Frank along for the ride.

Summary
Frank leans against the sink and looks at himself in the mirror. He does look like shit. His eyes are red and puffy, his hair is more disheveled than usual, and his scrubs are askew. He tries to his best abilities to tidy up his hair and pulls at his clothes.
Two people passed away in trauma room 1 today, and Frank can’t help but believe it was all his fault.
Or
Frank can't help but think he has messed up majorly and Mel suffers the consequences. Some way, somehow, she still wants him.

Summary
“I didn’t know you smoke,” he says, breaking the silence. “You seem too sensible, a model doctor and all that,” Mel turns her head to look at him, small smile on her face. “I think you’re plenty sensible too, but here you are,” Frank lets out a chuckle at that. Being with her made him feel the opposite of sensible, but she didn’t need to know that.
Or
Five times Frank and Mel smoke a cigarette together, and one time they decide not to.

Summary
Whatever Langdon and King were doing was between them. Besides, reporting them to HR seemed like a big pile of unnecessary paperwork she didn’t have the time or energy to fill out.
Or: Five times Mel and Frank's colleagues turned a blind eye to their relationship and the one time they didn't

Summary
Frank huffed, setting the mug down. “How many times are we going to have to go over this, Mel? I like listening to you talk. I’m not just being nice. We’re friends.”
“It’s important to ask,” she said, still watching him carefully. “Because sometimes people say they want to know something but they don’t actually mean that they do. They’re just being polite. And it’s hard for me to tell that, always.”
“I’ll tell you what,” he suggested. “Let’s make this easy. With me, you never have to ask. Consider it my… blanket approval, I guess.”
He pointed to himself. “I, Frank Langdon, am interested in what you have to say.”

Summary
"I've been thinking about getting a tattoo," Frank said as he finished ringing her up. "I've had the idea for a while, I just need to do something with it."
The woman fished in her pockets and pulled out a business card, then set it onto the counter between them. Melissa King, it said, along with an email, a phone number, and a website, presumably with her portfolio.
