A few beats of silence pass, almost to the extent of worrying Dean that he’s been caught eavesdropping.
“Sam,” Castiel quietly starts, tone careful. “I’m not sure how to less boldly ask, but...is there any chance that Dean may have been avoiding short sleeves for other reasons?”.
Okay, now Dean is ready to intervene. Like, ASAP.
He plasters on a content grin and tries to pretend as if his very bones aren’t rattling from fear, marching in with an unexpectedly rough, “Mornin’,” as he makes his way into the kitchen—thoroughly interrupting Sam’s apprehensive, “What do you mean ‘other reasons’?”.
(TLDR: Castiel gets saved from the empty and comes back to an extremely depressed/grieving Dean. Jack, Sam, Eileen, and Cas do their best to figure life out together, and Dean gets help. Heavy deancas centric + recovery process from alc withdrawal & sh)

Dean's heaven is nice. He has Afternoon beers with Bobby, movie nights with Sam and Eileen and Sunday dinner with his parents. All without apocalyptic threats to deal with. When he hears that Cas is free from the empty, he expects him to show up - he always does. Except this time, he doesn't.

Summary
Dean lets himself enjoy Jack's heaven for all of two days before he grows restless. Meeting Castiel again is all he can think about ever since Bobby told him that the first thing Jack did after arriving in heaven was to bring Castiel back from the Empty. In fact, he went as far as thoroughly disintegrating the embodiment of the Empty, making it just a place where dead angels and demons go. Well, at least the ones who want to permanently sleep forever.
So Dean can't help but pray to Castiel and ask to see him, and the angel comes to him as soon as he can, as he always has.
Now that he doesn't have to save the world or run from ten different things anymore, Dean finally thinks about that twisting pain in his chest every time he sees Castiel or thinks about him, even in heaven.
Maybe he can truly be free now, so he gives it a try.
