Summary
“Ah,” Gale startled, “Forgive me. I may have had a little too much to drink, I’m afraid.”
The stranger chuckled, and the sound slid like silk down Gale’s spine.
“What’s the occasion, may I ask?”
“The worst day of my life,” Gale replied, louder than he meant to. He raised his glass in a mock toast and tossed the last of the bourbon back.

Professor Gale Dakarios loses his research, his magic, and his lover Mystra all at once and only has himself to blame. When he goes to drown his sorrows, he meets a pale stranger with mysteries of his own.

Summary
Gale didn't have a problem with Astarion, per se.
It was just that he and Astarion never quite meshed. They were too different, and always ended up at odds and on separate sides of the room. They had not a single thing in common, apart from sharing a group of friends and the occasional bottle of red. There were no hard feelings, but they just didn't quite get each other, and that was fine.
What wasn't fine was Astarion turning up last-minute, unexpectedly and unannounced.
──────⊱⁜⊰──────A weekend trip with friends turns out to be much more eventful - and far less restful - than expected.

Summary
No longer a slave, no longer a puppet under his master’s command, Astarion at last had tasted freedom. And with that freedom he claimed the desires that had burned within him for so long: to live without fear, to choose his own path, and above all, to walk beneath the sun – with a little help from Gale.
And yet…
Yet, even after all he had conquered, something remained beyond his grasp, something Astarion had never truly claimed: his own body. Freedom had given him the sun, the agency, the right to choose, but it had not given him comfort in his own skin. The thought of touch still unsettled him; the brush of another’s hand, the intimacy of a kiss... Anything could summon shadows of shame, leaving him feeling tainted, dirty, unworthy.
But truth was, he longed for more.OR
Astarion wants to reclaim his sexuality, and Gale offers him an agreement that is going to change both of their lives.

Summary
Gale is a survivalist romance author who writes about love after the end of the world. He's a divorcee who has plans B through G for power failure, but no Plan A for getting laid. Astarion is a former artist who decided to winter in the northern Michigan lake house he got in his divorce. He's not exactly rural-winter ready. When a massive blizzard knocks out power across the community, Gale—seeing Astarion's dark McMansion—trudges through the blizzard to prevent his idiot neighbor from freezing to death, but they'll both keep each other warm in the end.
This low-stakes, cozy, modern, the-Ant-and-the-Grasshopper AU softens both Astarion's and Gale's traumatic pasts to gaslighting, controlling exes who leave them lonely until they discover their strange neighbor is a better fit than they had imagined.
Note: In case you are unfamiliar with the fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper, the Ant prepares for winter by working all summer, while the Grasshopper wastes the summer singing and having fun. In the oldest tellings, the Grasshopper gets cold and hungry in the winter and goes to the Ant for food and shelter, but the Ant scolds him and turns him away. In our version, of course, the Ant is a bit kinder 😉
