One of my favorite portrayals of the Clover-Martlet relationship, especially because of how hard certain moments hit, as well as cuz of how Martlet's personality is shown. She's such a mess but she's trying her absolute best and is so lovable for it. Clover's wavering trust in her messed up my heart strings irreparably. I want them to be happy so bad.
Also one of the most enjoyable Flowey-Clover relationships, primarily though not exclusively because of the whole Having (Positive) Feelings Again thing - it's a unique premise, from what I've seen. It's got some heart-wrenching Flowey moments thanks to it. The crayon scene is still hanging around in my brain.
That's not all this fic's got to offer, but this is what I can remember off the top of my head. That dove is certainly not having a good time though, like JESUS. This fic is where I go when I want to be shattered to pieces in a controlled environment.

A much-needed and quite well-executed depiction of what was going on in Starlo's poor head before he recklessly, foolishly but still heroically held Clover back via *checks notes* misspelling words and shooting them with a BB gun. In all seriousness, the little details here are what counts, all the shades of emotion along with Starlo's constant mental referencing of his favorite cowboy media. His imaginary version of the perpetrator vs the baffling reality is a particular fave of mine.

Summary
A year or so has past since Monsterkind has been freed.
A little place called Hometown sits at the base of mt Ebott, a town consisting of monsters who go about their normal, daily routine. This normality is swiftly upended, as a young human teen - one who the monsters have never seen before - suddenly appears in Hometown.
Spurred at this exciting, new prospect, the bluebird monster Martlet - local carpenter and craftsmonster - excitedly takes the new human across a tour of Hometown, determined to show all the wonderous things the town has to offer.
But one can't help but wonder... is there more to this new human's visit?

Gotta be my main comfort fic. The pinch of sadness and despair in the middle adds some flavor, of course. They bring out the sugar (and boy did it give me a rush). I am proud to have lived to see the day when someone finally bloody recognizes this child. Like, Martlet, that massive sneeze from the mini-sequel was very deserved, you plan to be this kid's mother and you can't even tell 'em apart from a random passerby?? Just kidding, you're great, don't ever change, it made the moment of recognition way more satisfying. Also like...as a face blindness haver, I getchu. The rest of you people though really should've gotten the hint as soon as Martlet started grinning wide enough to fit a plate in her mouth. Anyway, Clover deserves all those hugs and more, and I'm happy to know they get pretty much a lifetime supply of those with all the friends and family they've acquired.

After rushing through the Steamworks, not bothering with any of the robots save one, Clover is confronted with the difficulties their reckless crusade has created. Monsters evacuated, security tightened, the King beyond reach. And a familiar face awaiting them on a rooftop.

This was one of the first UTY fanfics I've read and it was a really encouraging start because I enjoyed it a lot. It had just the stuff I didn't fully know I was looking for. Is it a little indulgent? You could say that, yeah, but it definitely hit the emotional beats and that's what matters most. Martlet's predicament here is absolutely devastating on so many levels (which is why I also really liked the continuation which that other person made where things turn out better). Clover's thought process was also interesting to watch, and same goes for their reactions. They are so messed up in this fic and yet somehow I still like them a lot. Also I'd be lying if I said I didn't try to imagine a continuation of this story in my head for a couple of days after reading it. Poor Martlet, she's so cool and so sad and so awfully kind. Hope she's doing okay in that forest.
